Benue State: Gov Suswam Says To Gov-Elect, 'You Must Take Care Of Me When I Leave Office'

The incumbent Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has informed the state Governor-elect, Chief Samuel Ortom, to look after him after his exit from office in May.

Suswam reportedly said this at the Government House Banquet Hall in Makurdi on Monday, when he hosted the Governor-elect .

He said, “When I leave(office), I will be a burden on you and you must take care of me.”

According to Punch reports, Suswam assured Ortom that his party (PDP) will not challenge his victory in court, claiming that litigation was an unnecessary distraction.

Governor-elect Ortom, who contested the election on the platform of APC, said he was overwhelmed when the incumbent governor called him on Sunday to congratulate him on his victory at the polls. He commended Suswam for displaying “sound maturity” on the outcome of the election.

He also commended his PDP opponent, Terhemen Tarzoor, who he said, had called to congratulate him.

Rounding up his speech, Suswam said he had started a peaceful transition to enable the Governor-elect to take over from him.

He said, “I’ve already started a peaceful transition to enable the Governor-elect to take over power after the expiration of my tenure.”

He however further reiterated that the Governor - elect must look after him after he leaves office in May.

  1. Suswan is a bloody idiot. Thief. Robber. Take care of him indeed. The billions of Naira he stole as governor of venue for 8 years is not enough for him. He still wants to be taken care of. Rogue like him. This is a man who hadn't paid salaries in his state since last year.nwho is taking care of the men and women he is owing salaries. There is a special place in hell waiting for people like gabriel suswan. Karma will surely deal with him. It s only a matter of time

  6. Shameless politician. upon all the money he looted he is still not contented. The sad thing is that the governor elect will still be taking care of his financial needs because he helped him become a governor

  9. I am not surprised by this reckless statement. Politicians in Nigeria are always indebted to the godfather that helped him get elected into office . that is the sad reality here . This is what caused problems between Fashola and tinubu some time ago. Fashola was almost impeached if not that he played a long later on.

  10. Suswam just betrayed the real reason a number of incumbents who lost their elections ave been so "magnanimous" to concede and congratulate the victors. They want soft landing. Starting from Jona himself.

  23. This Benue people are too lazy. How can a former governor expect to live on a handout by the incumbent. Thats why Benue state is so under developed. That is also the reason why fulani herdsmen ie buhari 's brothers are gradually driving them away from their land. Lazy people
