South African Police allegedly kill another Nigerian

Kingsley Ikeri, a businessman from Imo state, has been killed in Vryheid town in Kwazulu Natal province, according to to the Nigeria union in South Africa.

Ikeri, 27, was reportedly killed on Wednesday.

Bartholomew Eziagulu, chairman of the union in the province told NAN, that the businessman was allegedly tortured to death by police officers.

Eziagulu said the police used plastic bag to cover his face in a bid to get information from him.

“In the process, they suffocated the deceased . When the police took him to the hospital, he was confirmed dead,” the chairman of the union, said.

Adetola Olubajo, secretary general of the union, said the national secretariat had been informed about the death of Ikeri.

Olubajo said the Nigerian authorities and the police in South Africa have also been notified.

Ikeri’s death happened two weeks after Uchena Eloh, a Nigerian, was killed by policemen in the Western Capeprovince of the country.

In December 2016, Metropolitan police in Cape Town had suffocated Victor Nnadi, also a businessman from Imo, to death.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, special assistant to the president on foreign affairs and diaspora, said a total 116 Nigerians have been killed in South Africa through extra-judicial means in the last two years.

Seven in 10 of the killings were said to have been allegedly carried out by the South African police.

  3. We only read how the South African police had killed about 116 Nigerians in the last 2 years but we weren't told what led them into police net. Let's tell ourselves the truth, Nigerians in South Africa commit all manner of hideous crimes. Please in order to avoid all these judicial killings, Nigerians in South Africa should abstain from crime and embrace decent livelihood. They are very much aware that the South Africans have huge aversion towards Nigerians.

Well, isn't this just irritating, to see same blacks and Africans acting like mammals protecting their territories, this is the sickest level of chauvinistic xenophobia I have ever seen and from law-enforcing policemen, how loud spoken is this, this clearly means that Nigerians there in South Africa are not save at all, if they cannot be covered by Policing in South Africa, and we say Nigerian "Olokpa" is the worse, unbelievable!

Then again, they are responsible for 70% of the death happenings, I mean; who still uses those medieval and obsolete means of interrogation, the polythene bag method was used for criminals with high crime ratings, such an orthodox and unnecessary show of wrongheaded xenophobia and to fellow blacks, we over here do not treat South Africans that way, we allow them live like one of us, but they hate us over there and forgive me if it seems that I am stereotyping all South Africans, but this is hurting.
