World Bank President Jim Yong Kim Says President Buhari Directed Him To Focus On Northern Nigeria

The President of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim, on Thursday, said that the bank had concentrated on the Northern region of Nigeria in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s request.

Kim said, “You know, in my very first meeting with President Buhari he said specifically that he would like us to shift our focus to the Northern region of Nigeria and we’ve done that. Now, it has been very difficult. The work there has been very difficult.

I think Nigeria, of course, has suffered from the dropping oil prices. I think things are just now getting better. But the conversation we need to have with Nigeria, I think, is in many ways related to the theme that I brought to the table just this past week, which is investment in human capital.

Focusing on the Northern part of Nigeria, we hope that as commodity prices stabilise and oil prices come back up, the economy will grow a bit more. But very, very much important is the need to focus on what the drivers of growth in the future will be.

According to the World Bank boss, the bank will invest in human capital in other parts of Africa in order to prepare the continent for the next phase of growth.

  4. I am even surprised that he did not tell him to "focus on Daura" his native town.

  5. Even if they concentrate on the North for another fifty years at a stretch still it will remain what it is, the North. Development happens when a people, region or nation embraces it.

  6. Even if they focus on North for a century, Aboki will still be aboki.

  9. With all the attention given to the north, they will still be backward and this is not a curse.
Weldone Mr president, after all you belong to "NOBODY".

  10. Another region makes the money, it gets channelled to another part.

  12. Anu mpama.

President of Nothern Nigeria. I totally believe Mr.Moon...

Lets see how this pans out for the president of the north.

I wonder why Tinubu brought you back from the grave. The policies you have put in place plus your appointments are a stark confirmation of Mr.Moons words.

I pray heaven and humans work against you in the next election.

President Yemi Osibanjo is the best president Nigeria never had.

  14. The united nation puts more money in the north. They typically put more resources in areas that are most impoverished. Nothing new. It’s only news to those who don’t know.

    2. You know the problem with most people is that they don't take out time to do a little research of their own concerning a particular issue. There's nothing new about this report it's exactly what they(world bank) have been doing for years.

Northern Nigeria is extremely backward and impoverished compared to southern Nigeria. They have the least standard of living with a very high rate of children that are out of school roaming the streets as Almajiris.

Since their goal is the reduction of poverty, why not concentrate more in the part(s) the country where it's more prevalent?

I don't know how this is news worthy sef!

      GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

    3. Are we the ones that asked them to be birthing like rats, there is no excuse for his actions. Most tribalistic president.

    4. It's not just birthing of children they have also chosen not to grow, education is free for some but they will never go, others from other parts of Nigeria try to make it better for themselves but these ones have chosen to be stupid. Buhari is a malu and no one can tell me not to insult him cus he is my elder, yet the elder keeps provoking me. It's too much for how many years. I am sure if the other parts of Nigeria had this much concentration Nigeria would have been better, but these lazy set of people who use their prayers most of the time as an excuse not to work would never amount to anything. Dear Amy don't bother yourself with the shameless lot who find nothing bad in what this government is doing, non of them would come out and comment on this post. Cowards

  16. Would love to hear/know the full conversation, I mean in what context did he ask him to focus on the north.
Not holding brief for Mr President and not calling Mr UN President a liar either, just that we don't want anyone/everyone bringing different ingredients to pour in an already boiling pot of soup.

Mr President Nigerians voted for you, as such all interests must be represented. The way your body language and utterances has 'sectionized' the country, you're indirectly working and aiding Nnamdi Kanu and his cahoots.

  17. Sorry my bad *World Bank President* not UN.

  18. The Almajaris you talk about believe in begging to eat. They are lazy to even put the money into good use. So why waste money on people that can't invest it in order to survive tomorrow ? They should focus somewhere else since so far, their efforts are not yielding any positive change.

    1. That just it... a young Igbo boy that doesn't go to school would go to trade but these ones would refuse school, refuse trade, refuse civilization, as a matter of fact he will refuse everything that would make him better just so that he can sit and beg while gusting

  19. If you have an open mind you will understand that it's normal for WHO to concentrate their project in the north, even Buhari has addressed this on tweeter.

  20. Later some people will open mouth & say IPOB & biafrans don't know what they are saying or doing. JAMB reduces cut off mark...who else does it favor but northerners? Naija is actually a fraud if we want to be honest, we know those who benefit from 'one naija'. Unfortunate!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. We already know he is the president of Northern Nigeria. I don tay, no be today e start now.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Chai! Buhari is a big liar, he is only ruling Nigeria to favor northerners

    ReplyDelete
  23. Truth is free. Buhari is a bastard of a president. The blame for the under-development of the north belongs to him, after all he was military government of the north east. North east should be removed from Nigeria and given to him, after he is impeached. Parasites.
