French Designer Givenchy Has Died Aged 91

French fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy, who created famous looks for Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy, has died at the age of 91.

His death was announced by the house of Givenchy.

Hubert de Givenchy was the most aristocratic of French designers, renowned for his own personal elegance and impeccable manners. He was born into a noble French family, and destined initially for the law. But at the end of World War Two, he persuaded his family to let him pursue his passion for clothes.

Fame came in the 1950s, and for three decades, he dressed some of the most beautiful women in the world.

He's credited with introducing the notion of separates to give women greater freedom to choose, and with being one of the first clothes designers to create his own perfume.

In 1988, he sold his fashion house to the luxury brand LVMH, and a few years later he retired to a life of comfortable discretion. He came from a world of fashion which he acknowledged has now all but disappeared - an age of elegance, where clothes were created out of a unique personal relationship between client and couturier.

    YSL gone.

Alexander McQueen gone (Apparent suicide, I could relate)

    Givenchy gone.

    Sad!

Of all the people of colour to ever delve into fashion, which in my opinion, is arguably the most difficulty competitive sector in the Arts, I'm moved to tag Virgil Abloh and my lord, Kanye West, as the greatest to ever do it.

Check the records, Virgil Abloh succesfully floated Pyrex for years...tees cost as much as $500 a pair, A-list rappers went berserk over it showing so much support then dude got bored and transformed Pyrex to OFF WHITE. If you know your fashion, you would agree that OFF WHITE has been astronomically successful as evident in how many A-list celebraties rock it and luxury retail stores it sells at. He only started in 2012.
I got a piece of his furniture as a present and I literally took out my old Ralph Lauren furniture for it...that good.

I would rather not talk about Kanye, first non athlete to have a partnership with Adidas without their logos on his sneakers, won best sneakers two years in a row. No, I shouldn't talk about Kanye. YEEZY did with Adidas what Nike thought he won't achieve with them from his Red November collection.

Okay, I won't talk about Kanye. Virgil Abloh admitted Kanye was an inspiration that transformed Pyrex to OFF WHITE, Olivier Rousteing of Balmain admitted same. No other person of colour has had kids standing on long queues for days to buy their sneakers. Jordan came close but not for the length of days people stood for YEEZY in the U.S and across Europe.

Who made Balmain popular amongst celebs? Yeah you guessed right, Kimye. Who made LV attractive to the black new money demographic? Eeerrr, Kanye! You may argue otherwise but feel free to look it up.

    I won't talk about Kanye.

PS I miss you General's Wife.
