However, one cannot help but notice the similarity between ace designer, Mudi Africa’s Drop Crotch Pants, and Kunle Afolayan’s Kembe. Some people have therefore been accusing the actor of stealing the ace fashion designer’s idea.
But in an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, the filmmaker stated that he did not steal anyone’s idea.
He said, “If you look at Mudi’s designs, you can compare it with mine and see the difference. Richard Mofe-Damijo was one of the people who wore Mudi’s own and I can categorically tell you that RMD has bought more than 10 pairs of Kunle’s Kembe because it is different.
“Mudi did plain harem pants; I am doing a modernised Yoruba traditional kembe, using local fabrics so they are two different things. Are you saying that the agbada that Ebuka Obi-Uchendu wore during Banky W’s wedding is not the normal agbada? Anybody can claim ownership to something as long as you can defend it and people also see the essence of it.”
He further told Saturday Beats the rationale behind the name of his clothing line, Ire Clothing. “Ire is my signature and it is also a way of prophesying positivity into the lives of my customers. I want everything I do to prophesy goodness, good luck and my best wishes to people that I come in contact with.

ReplyDeleteIt is not your design Kunle, stop lying to feel talented. I had a pant that was exact same design that I bought in Balogun market back in 2010. This guy is always forming mister talented and producing rubbish but nobody wants to tell him. That pant you have been claiming as your design has been in existence even before you were born...if it was your ‘design’ like you said, go and register it under patents and designs law, cap A18 laws of federation of Nigeria 2004. Until you do that, stop claiming it’s yours, otherwise you will be commuting interectual property theft from whoever owns the original design

DeleteHesaid the design is the revamped kembe style. So stop attacking and read carefully. We all know designers bring back old stuff and create something new. no one can claim origniality for most of their designs.

ReplyDeleteNawa , the so called design is a traditional design in Thailand . Everybody wears it in Thailand. Nothing is new. The only difference is that Kunle used the african fabrics . Why did he even answer the interviewer . He should have ignored .
