MRS DEE'S CORNER
MOTHER TONGUE ACQUISITION

I've always had admiration for people who are multilingual. You know, when an individual can speak more than two indigenous languages fluently and teach their children the language as well. The children are able to speak the official language, their native tongue and perhaps the language of the immediate environment if it's different from the aforementioned.

Before I got married, I resolved that my children must know how to speak Igbo very well as I would only communicate with them in Igbo and their teacher would do the job of teaching them the English language. Saying it was easy but I soon realised that effecting it was not quite as smooth as I thought it would be.

First, hubby is not from the Igbo speaking tribe, so the only means of communication became English. When the children came I experienced difficulty switching from Igbo to English, English to Igbo. Sometimes I would be so busy with responsibilities that I would even forget about my commitment to teach them Igbo. I soon got tired of trying as I always slipped back into default mode. I sometimes managed to infuse my speech with certain Igbo words and they would laugh at me and inquire what it means.

The zeal has gradually fizzled out and I get worried each time I realise they will grow up not knowing how to speak my language nor their father's. I really need to do something about this but I do not even know what I have to do.

I know what you mean my dear but I succeeded in doing it...My kids speak English, pidgin and understand and speak a little igbo, yoruba and isoko...its crazy but it was just when i go tired of trying to teach that they started showing signs that they had learnt from listening.....

Dont give up,just give them the basic foundation.

LITTLE BOY GOES MUTE AFTER BESTIES DEMISE

A friend of mine has a son and after the vacation, the boy was looking forward to going back to school, (note this little boy doesn't have friends in school except one , and he loves that boy so much) so he was really looking forward to going to school

when he got to school on Monday , he didn't see his best friend in school ,and he was worried and sad all day, at the end of class , the teacher told them about the demise of the Boy (he died on December 24th).

Since on Monday till now , my friends son does't eat, neither does he talk to anyone at home. He is really really sad and depressed. The teacher has told my friend now that his son doesn't concentrate in class anymore. (This child is one brilliant guy and he is just 7years old). Please what can we do to help this child?.
Thank you

Perhaps it would help to take him to visit the demised boys home and lt the mum explain to him that his friend has become an Angel and gone to play with God......The mum should make him laugh and ask him if he has a message for his friend....I saw a movie like this and it worked out when this little thought that his friend had become an angel and was watching over him......
Maybe changing schools might also help so that he can have a fresh start..

My fiance's mum just called on Monday to inform my people that they are shifting the wedding that suppose to come up in Feb..... reasons known to her.

I tried to call the father's side because they are separated and the father's sis said the date is still intact and preparations are still going on but his mom refused oooo...

Have talked to so called fiance but he said nothing he can do not minding the shame and humiliation I will go through.... Plz I need help how best can I handle this situation? what can I do now after all the aso ebi we've given out? My friends and family far and wide don hear .....
What am I suppose to do?

So the mum has problems with the father and trying to use this wedding to prove a point?Well she has no right to do so and i wish you and your boo can just walk into a registry and get married whilst they sort themselves out.
Your Boo said there is nothing he can do?Hmmmm there is no need to cry my dear,if he cannot stand up for himself then maybe it was not meant to be....
Just prepare your mind for the worse dear, getting married into a family with this kinda ish is not what anyone prays for at all.

Stella pls help me post. I am at cross road.I got an admission for a Masters degree in Ilorin while I am based in Ibadan.I have also did documentation on a Federal govt job.

I have paid 100k for the school fees of my masters before the Federal govt job came.My concern is that is it possible to run a full time masters in Ilorin and be doing a federal govt job in Ibadan but I dont know if they will be strict at the FG job or not.

Should I forfeit the masters and face the new FG job squarely.Or i should i get another masters admission in Ibadan where I am residing. I heard that masters degree is usually use to promote workers thats why i want to get it or should I look for a small job before Federal govt finally post us or I should i continue my MSC program before FG post us.The challenging thing is that i am scared I might have a boss that wont want me to combine schooling and masters and again i will be a new employee.

Why not get the school, thing running in the same state where you got the Job?

OF WEDNESDAY IHN

Dear Stella, thank you for using your platform to help others,I really admire you a lot, I am the lady who sells shoes and bags, pls this is a memo to the anonymous who called me out on yesterday Ihn.....

calling me all sort of names, she called me a scam,a liar and a rogue, just because I asked to pay before delivery.I have very few of this things with me since I don't have a shop where I can display them yet, i started this business few months ago I make orders based on the customers choices, this woman approached me and asked for cooperate shoes and I showed her the pictures, but yesterday morning when she was asking me about coming to my shop I told her I don't have but can make delivery myself..

honestly I was so occupied yesterday morning attending to somethings that I only picked my phone and just said what was in my head which was for her to pay before delivery and when she said she can't,I just replied ''okk"and ''thank you" without actually trying to understand(because I was doing something else) the fact that she stays in the same town as mine when she said she will come to my shop because she didn't mention her location and I didn't ask which was a mistake on my part.

I was still thinking I will chat with her when am less busy for her to assure me she was going to pay if I bring the shoes she ordered to her,I think you understand, but to my greatest surprise in the evening after i got back from where i went (stella she wasn't the only one who requested the other lady in kano was soo polite and calm)and I opened your blog to read as usual everyday, she already called me out and insulted me.and I quickly went to WhatsApp to explain and apologise.Came to her comment here and also apologise asking her to hear me out and she insulted me again here,(she refused to reply my chat on whatsapp but was quick to come here and insult me)threatening to send our chats to you. Lol.

pls attached herein is our chat yesterday morning and evening after she called me out.madam, if you don't want to buy after I have apologised sincerely its okk but please enough of the insults.

I saw that comment you are referring to,Are you sure it was you she called out?The call out had no name keh...you for just ignore....
Hmmmm maybe the boxing ring should not be erased cos nah things like this we for they settle there!!!

  33. Let me bring my concern to the table here.i have this bf i met on singles and mingles 4 yrs ago.we are both planning to settle down.he is a disciplined and responsible guy.
He is alright sha but he isnt a cheerful person at all and it weighs me down.i can count the number of times ive seen him laugh since i knew him. Also in these 4 yrs,i havent received one single gift ..not for birthday o or valentine o or christmas.not one.ive complained about this. Before he wasnt making much so i didnt talk but now he has a better job,he says he is saving for house.hmmm.let me add i have given him gifts almost every year except last year when i stopped since he was not reciprocating. Just now i saw a receipt for $100 gift card he bought for someone(we live in the u.s) and another meal receipt for 2 he spent $75.i have been begging for a gift even $20 since as long as ive known him.i did not get.do i confront him wt these receipts?what could be going on here?i honestly dont know if this guy loves me but he is a good listener and offers good advice when i need it.our sex life is almost dead.i dont feel much for him anymore cos of his mood swings.do i try to change him or walk away.will he change?.remeber that responsible ,single guys are hard to find in the obodo oyibo o and both of us are in our late 30s.Else the guy is responsible and i know he will make a good father

  34. Poster with FG work and MSc,since you have paid already start the program before your posting comes. I don't know your department so I can't really say. Not all departments are that serious. When your FG posting comes out and you can't cope, leave unilorin and try UI. Personally I don't think you should risk your life on the road all the time. Oyo -Ogbomosho road get as e be. Just start since you've paid, who knows your boss may be very kind and lenient with you. Whatever you do, don't contemplate leaving your FG job for MSc o. Please

  45. i am so upset and trying to calm down. Nigeria is such a failed state and it would take more than prayers to reverse. The change starts with us as individuals and not the government. My generator gets vandalized by my neighbours. As in, what gives you the right to vandalize someone else's property. Those who did the act are about 6 in number. I go to the police to report, meanwhile, i get a call from another neighbour, informing me the neighbours who did the act are packing and moving out. We inform the police and they insist, they will be picked up the next morning. There were only two left in the house. They pick them up,male and female. The others responsible come to the station. At the end, only one male, the caretaker who has nothing to do about the incident and i( can you imagine) gets locked up in a cell. Meeeeeee! How? How about the other 5 involved in the act?It was my generator that was vandalized. I am so upset. The culprits have refused to repair the connecting wire now. I call the D.p.o now to introduce myself and report that they have refused to replace the wire and he ends the call. Why are Nigerians this way. I can replace the wire myself but its just the principle behind it. The culprits are free and i am the victim. Hissss

  46. Thank you guys for the advice but I work 6days a week and only have Sundays. All the fashion houses I've checked don't offer Sunday training, I've even looked for a personal teacher and none can work on Sundays

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That sunday will be had to find as that is when most people want to rest.

If you have money for your training save up in full, and an extra 300k on the side for running expenses as you will buy fabric for practice, photocopy/buy textbooks, pattern drafting tools if you will learn pattern making.
These expenses small as they may be, add up eventually.

So i will only advise you to quit if you have money that will tide you over until you are half way through your training, as you can earn enough to cover your expenses if you're serious about your work.

I learnt part-time as i didn't want to resign from my regular 9-5 as the pay is quite good, and i was making clothes for my self and colleagues by the time i was done with my basic training.
Just make sure that you are learning pattern making, and not free hand.\

      All the best.

  57. Those materials are lovely.

Call out, like Stella said, what if its not the person whose chat you are sharing that you called out? Like you saw a call out with no name and instantly claimed it as yours? Tons of people sell here o. Hian! This person seems pretty okay with your stance. If it's not the same person, that mean you've brought an innocent persons phone number for public viewing. Thank God there's nothing personal ish within but what happened to reaching out to the person via call? Again, I'm confused. If the call out had no name, then how do you know you r the person being called out??? Seriously? You just answer any call out you see and claim it? Either you are very new in business or customers have been accusing of same thing. This is weird! Either way your customer service needs MAJOR adjustment. No hard feelings.

Chummy cho cho. Where is the gist na???? Warris dis?
