Missing Six Year Old Boy Found Dead In Aunt's Neigbour's Freezer

This is a sad story!!!

Detectives attached to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos, have launched investigation into the death of a six-year-old boy, Treasure Akinsohun.

Treasure’s body was allegedly found inside a freezer at Ketu, Alapere area of Lagos. The victim and his mother were said to have gone to Ketu from Ikorodu to celebrate Easter with the woman’s younger sister when the unfortunate incident occurred last week. It was learnt that what baffled the victim’s parents and residents of the area was that Treasure was declared missing at Oyedele Street, but his body was later found inside a freezer at Orisigun Street, about five streets from where his mother’s younger sister resides.

Treasure and other children in the compound were playing when he suddenly disappeared on Tuesday, about 5:30p.m. The bereaved mother, Mrs. Eunice Akinsohun, said she immediately went to Alapare Police Station to report her missing son. Eunice said after she had a made the report at the police station, she and her sister went in search of Treasure in the neighbourhood. She said: “I also called my husband on the phone to inform him of the development. “Before I got back home, a crowd had gathered at my sister’s house at Alapere to help in the search for my son. Throughout that day we couldn’t locate the exact place where he was.

“When my husband eventually arrived, he also tried his best with my sister’s husband and some elders in the community. He was still not found. That was how we went to back to Ikorodu that night with tears and anguish.” Eunice said she and her husband were on their way back to Alapere from Ikorodu when they received a phone call that her son had been found in a woman’s freezer at Orisigun Street. She said: “Immediately I saw the corpse of my son, I fainted. I was later revived at the hospital. “What surprised me was how my son got into a freezer at another street. I still don’t understand how he got into the freezer as I speak with you. But it is left for the police to investigate.”

The distraught father, Mr. Ojo Akinsohun, said he was preparing to go out when he received a phone call from his wife that their son was missing. He said: “That was how I rushed down to Alapere.” Ojo said before he got to Ayodele Street where they went to celebrate Easter, at his sister-in-law’s house, a crowd had gathered searching for the boy throughout the day. He said: “I heard that the night my son was missing, the daughter of the freezer’s owner was sent to bring sachet water from the freezer, but she didn’t find the boy inside.

“I am surprised how the boy got into the freezer. I want police to investigate it and get to the root of the matter. I can’t sit down and allow my son to die in vain.” The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bala Elkana, said about 5:30p.m. Eunice Akinsohun reported that her son, Treasure Akinsohun, six-year-old, was missing. He said: “About 9a.m. the following day, the corpse of the boy was found inside a freezer in her neighbour’s shop, Patience Odowo, at Orisigun Street.” Elkana, however, said Odowo, had been arrested. The PPRO disclosed that the boy’s body had been deposited at the mortuary while investigation was ongoing.

    1. Are you mad? How can a six yr old boy be plying hide and seek inside freezer? Seems you're a suspect

    3. I agree with you Miss Ess. Happened to me when I was about 8. Hide & seek ooo..climbed into our freezer and the padlock latch thing flipped shut. I couldn't prod the freezer lid back up. It was dark and I started losing consciousness. My lazy aunt who normally won't get up to switch on light bulb came upstairs to our flat ( not house with upstairs ooo) for water. She screamed, brought me out and I don't know how long before I got myself. My silly sisters were still searching for me.

I still never blow oooo. You will think I had a higher purpose 😥

Rest in Peace to the little cute boy...

    1. Which rat? Boys are very active at play, many times they fail to recognise the mechanism of a freezer. This is not the first time such thing has occurred. Not easy but as much as possible children at play should be monitored.

  5. Let them do an autopsy so they know the cause of death first.....if it's case of hide and seek and he mistakinly locked himself or he was murdered and placed there they will know.
Was told some freezers have a locking system,u cant force open from inside, only outside. But 5 streets away,it's strange.

    1. What are u saying? So u are blaming the mother? She should have tied her son to her apron string abi? I doubt if u are a mother cos if u are one u would have known that taking care of kids is by God's grace. One minute they are in your line of vision and the next they have vanished.
Please, try and be sensitive when talking/typing and pray that temptation don't come your way.

  12. If it was within the vicinity where they were playing, I would have said maybe a hide and seek game gone wrong but 5streets away? Not 1,2 or 3 but 5. There's more to the story.
RIP dear. I hope your mom forgives herself

    1. When children are allowed to play unhindered there is a lot they get up to, they can even go further than the five streets.

  13. I think parents also need to start talking to their kids about this freezer of a thing. It's too rampant now. I always warn my son,and tell him it will shock him. My fear is even him locking his hands there.
I prohibit him from even entering kitchen except to get food. If you need something call someone to get it for you. Since hot oil poured on my neighbours son from the gas strait on him,I fear.
My boy is just 4 anyway. But I let him know gas, fridge or freezer is not to be touched. Until he is older and wiser abeg.

    1. You have done well. Many take these things for granted.

  14. Look at these points:
    1. The house where he was found was 5 streets away, meaning it wasn't a house he was very familiar with as a visitor. What are the chances of him just waltzing in to play a game???
    2. He was playing with his playmates, if really they were playing hide and seek, serious enough for a 6 year old to go into a strange home, 5 streets away to hide in a freezer, the kids themselves would have been searching for him or raised the alarm. 6 year olds are not too young to know their playmate is missing but they are too innocent to want to hide the fact that he suddenly disappeared during a game of hide and seek.
    3. What are the chances that a year old, non-retarded boy would crawl into a working freezer, kids only crawl into non-working freezers. Even an animal would not try hiding in a cold freezer. Remember that the daughter of the house was sent to bring sachet water "out of the freezer", so it was a cold, working freezer.
    4. What are the chances that a 6 year walked all by himself, 5 streets away, knew there was a freezer, hid himself in it and the owners of the home/shop were conveniently absent and so did not see him? The same freezer from which they make a living?!? Lol, whoever cannot see that this boy was killed and hidden/preserved in that freezer is not very intelligent, I'm afraid.
