RCCG Press Release On Death Of Church Member Who Reportedly Committed Suicide

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on Friday reacted to reports of the death of one Mr. Michael Arowosaiye, said to have committed suicide in Abuja on Tuesday, May 14, 2019.

The church’s position in a statement by Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, Head Media & Public Relations, said while the RCCG leadership sympathises with the family of the deceased, it had become necessary to clarify information in the public.

It read: “The said Mr. Michael Arowosaiye was not a minister in the RCCG. He was a singer and a keyboardist in one of our Youth Parishes in Abuja until 2017 when he left for another ministry in 2017.

“His movement to another ministry notwithstanding, Michael, through his elder brother who is presently one of the coordinators of the RCCG Youth Choir, continued to get invitation to minister in RCCG programmes.

“He had accommodation problem in 2018 and though he was no longer in the RCCG, a family in the Mission gave him the Boy’s Quarters of their house in Sunnyvale Estate in Lokogoma which was where he lived till the unfortunate suicide incident.

“It is therefore untrue to refer to him as a Minister in the RCCG. It is also misleading and absolutely incorrect to create the impression that RCCG does not care for its Members and Ministers.

“The RCCG is in the forefront among organizations with robust welfare package in Nigeria.

    1. Point is people NEED to know that attending church services daily, working in church day and night, bearing 'TITLES',does NOT make you a christian. If one is NOT born-again ,does NOT have a personal relationship with JESUS CHRIST,he/she is NOT a christian. A CHRISTIAN is a fellower of CHRIST...Kapish!!

  6. Is that what is important? Distancing your ministry from him because he committed suicide is just sad. Acknowledge him and sympathise with his family, no need for all the clarifications. To what end please?

    1. Didnt dey acknowledge and sympathize with his family? Its important they speak up cause all manner of things have been said about the mission. Every organization will speak up if untruth things were said about them,so learn and understand things before spilling rubbish

    2. The truth there is that the church did not treat him well. As a keyboardist, leaving the church like they, something is not adding up.

    3. How?
Do you know how people have started insulting and saying all sorts of things to the church?
I'm a 'thick' Catholic but I believe the church of God is one.
Did you even see the guys wears on his pictures?
Expensive something so I doubt he died of accommodation ish.But because the church is involve people are quick to drag her.

    4. All because of your hatred for the church, you refused to think about the fact that he left two years ago. Now let me ask. How about the new church he went to? Shouldn’t they speak up? Why should it be the church he left two years ago, only speaking up. You are just like apc blaming pdp even after ruling for four years.

    5. @blessed princess, most Instrumentalists look for churches who pay higher, doesn't mean rccg wasn't treating him well.
If you find out in Abuja most of them prefer the big Pentecostal churches and prefer not to be tied to a particular church so they can easily go for outside jobs as being tied to a church means you have to present for all services.

    6. It’s amazing how some people fight tooth and nail for the same church that might not give a ratass to their situation when they approach them for assistance. Do not be so quick to lay your life until you have witnessed their CSR activity(ies) without asking for anything in return.  ‘I’m just saying’. 🙂

  7. Useless and insensitive press release.....he wasn't a minister but JUST a singer and keyboardist.

This statement reeks of deniability. The last I check....if you sing and play keyboard in RCCG...you are a music minister. When you sing...within rrcg....it's called music ministration. Since when does singing and playing the keyboard becomes 'just'.

This is not just shameful response. But a misguided one.

And yes...I am a RCCG worker in a UK parish and feel insulted by this response.

I pity singers that works for church without collecting better money I stopped that 10yrs ago & today at list am very comfortable finaically than then when you spend all the time in the church yet no money to buy things you need for your self, even when you beg pastor he will post you sotey you go tire, only few well to do church members help you once in a while, now he is not a minister but just a 🎹 ist but the almighty pastor can't sing to save their wicked lives, serve church @ your peril except Christ embassy, I think pastors has to register a course on how to treat their workers & ministers from Chris Oyakilome, for now I don't have a church but maybe I will join Christ embassy soon, cos they preach love & show love, my mom is a member so I know what am saying

In the parish I used to attend, the choristers and instrumentalists are paid monthly to minister. How did I get to know? Their numbers reduced when the church could not afford to pay all of them anymore.
I heard the deceased attends The Shepherds house church, so it is a good thing RCCG came out to debunk cos all sort has been said about this incident.

“It is therefore untrue to refer to him as a Minister in the RCCG."

I find these two statements contradictory.
What makes someone a minister in the house of God? Is it only Pastors that can be referred to as ministers?

    1. Yes... When you use 'minister' as a title, then one has to be ordained

    2. I’m a worker in RCCG but not a minister. Before having a difficult high risk pregnancy and a baby, I was even HOD of one of the departments I joined but still not a minister. If they call a meeting for ministers, I won’t go but if the call one for HODs or HODs and ministers, then I would go. So done mix it up please. Although I do note a little distancing in the statement but then again, I haven’t been paying attention to what has been said about the church, that might have necessitated the clarification. It does also say the man’s brother is still a member etc, I’m sure he would have things to say if his brother is just getting denied due to this awful thing that happened to him. I will be the first to call the church out if I notice any wrongdoing and I actually do not agree with a lot of things that churches in Nigeria do. E.g. when we had a guest minster from Nigeria who was dictating offering amount starting from $200. We are very vocal and outspoken in my church and our pastor embraces that. But let’s not mix things up, a worker is not a minister

  10. I have said it here before , no need to commit suicide. Suicide itself is a scam. Because you not know what awaits you in the after life. That said, Churches should do more in helping people. Times are bad and people are really suffering. Pastors should be preaching giving to the needy the same way the preach about giving tithe , offerings and seed sowing.

    1. It is only the old generation churches that preach and practice love and helping the needy down to non members of their Parishes. Majority of the new ones preach riches and being self absorbed while living large in affluence off the ‘Flock’.

    6. @yori yori ,I am a worker in the church and we don't get paid .when attending a church do we go there bcos of the packages they offer or for God?the church can't take good care of all her members .the society sees the church as one wealthy society that has no issues with money but surely the church does has its own responsibilities to take care of.and that guy I see is not hungry and like they said it was never accommodation problem because the church member gave him one for free.

    2. And those pastors underwent the necessary trainings to be in that post, did didnt get it just because dey were in the choir. When the girl that was rescued by Tony Rapu said she went to a particular school didnt the school come out with a reply? When Blac-chanya claimed she was enrolled in Havard business school didnt the school come out and reply? So what's the stupid talk all about? If an organization feels something not true has been said about them, they deserve every right to come out and set the records straight but I guess you wont know that cause your brain contains nothing

  13. I read somewhere that the guy was engaged to be married but was having an affair, the said girl released his nudes and his wedding was cancelled. But his suicide wasn't accomodation related like earlier reported, so maybe it's the shame from the act that caused it

I believe he is was not loner, for a singer, expecially in the house of God he had people around him.
What happened to the word of God he received continually in church, what happened to speaking to his pastor if was going through hard life journey, what happened to.........

In fact who are the church?

For those saying the line up there is contradictory, its not. he now attends Shepard ministry in Apo, and only goes on invitation to his former church when the youth have a special program.

The FBIs and Chief Justices of our beloved blog, Some of you will not find out facts before you open your mouths. That guy was a worker not a minister and you would have gotten to a stage before they name you minister. And as stated above in the press release he left our church year before the last. May God grant him eternal rest and comfort his fiancee he was suppose to get married to this September.

  22. This publication has confirmed my suspicion. How inhuman!!!! Imagine!!!!
If this doesn't open people's eyes nothing else will. Man's inhumanity to man. Chai!!!!! So na to distance yourself from the man and save the image of the church is more important than reaching out to his family, accepting your fault and ensuring serving ministers are well taken care of.
This is why I love Christ Embassy. Pastor Chris blesses them without thinking and gives them international opportunity.
If Sinach we're in their church they probably would have distanced themselves when she didn't get married on time.
Where is the man in charge? Speak up!!! This ministers legacy should not be cleared out like this!! Uwa sef???

Someone that left the church 2yrs ago and you want to blame dem for his death.speaking of marriage, is it all their members that are married? Do you see dem distancing themselves from them cause of that. You can praise your church without trying to bring down another

  25. I no blame una sha...lack of mental health awareness is the problem here.
I dont blame the church , many are not equipped with the intuition to notice the signs of depression.
This guy was prolly depressed, it takes a level of crazy to commit suicide.

The church should be taught how to notice subtle signs of depression and appropriate referal since people seek succour in religious houses. his family didnt notice neither did the church..I can only blame the church if they were taught on how to notice these signs and they didnt apply it.
    Depression is real..suicide is real..

  26. RCCG is very one kain for this sha.
If the story would have been about a former someone winning a Nobel prize would they be quick to distance themselves too?
So heartless. Does it matter if he's a current or past member? He just died for goodness sake
