We pray hard and register our business. Also open Instagram pages and advertise online. Pay those small small blogs 5k to carry out business. Then we print complimentary cards and drop them everywhere. We dress professionally too. Smart pant suits, lovely dresses and visit corporations even without appointments. We speak to everyone we meet and visit small hotels too. We still pray hard everyday and slowly but surely God opens doors.

To the “house cleaning” you may be insinuating, I’m not so sure what you’re referring to. But I’m sure your first daughter as a girl child born and bred in naija (aka naija girl) will be posted on this blog and other blogs as a textbook example of a professional “house cleaner”. Makes sense abi? Ajuju oh.

  6. Well I will say the country is hard not for the above reasons but for mine:
    Bad roads
    Insecurity
    Poor power supply
Poor wages and high cost of living
    No jobs

  8. That Uber business was really painful! If not, that’s the best job any youth should engage in! I was making better money! But Uber was just too greedy!

Uber had thier clients, as in strong clients, that even Olosho can’t talk to drivers anyhow!, then Taxify came and was also doing fine! Then Greed set in, Uber wanted it all and slashed the price by 50% or 60% and even went way below Taxify! Then Drivers became angry and we all ported to Taxify, Taxify got hold of the market and started dictating and being mean to the drivers! Even olosho became witches overnight and could afford both!..... till this day, the market has been destroyed beyond redemption! All other taxi apps even indigenous apps can’t release the grip from Taxify and Uber.... Uber drivers and Taxify drivers, dem swear for una? Ikwakwakwakwakwa

  9. In as much as the first guy prefixed his statements with "Nigeria is too hard", both only went on to discuss the copy-copy nature of Nigerians. I happen to agree with them. A few years ago when the Bella Naija Weddings trend really took over, everyone and their mother started doing make-up and tying gele. Even those that were painting their clients like masquerades were claiming "make-up artists". Everyone was now a photographer, including those whose pix looked like it was taken with the original Nokia 3310. Everyone became small chops business owner. Everyone started baking cakes. Some of those cakes were as hard as cement blocks, and not well made. Everyone started to sew, and more often than not, those outfits belonged in "what I ordered Vs what I received".

These days, everyone on Instagram is selling "human" hair/wigs. Or selling clothes from the same Turkish suppliers. There is very little originality, and when the business doesn't do well, "village people" are blamed.

Think outside the box! Stand out by doing what others aren't! All the entrepreneur billionaires ammassed their fortune because they introduced things that no one else was doing, or the greatly improved on something by making it better. It also helps to actually have a passion for what you want to do! Don't go into an industry because everyone is doing it, and you want to try your luck.

  10. Naija.is hard ooh. My mum was the only caterer in my area before but now we have more than 30 shops offering similar services. We've told her to close the shop and starts enjoying her herself at home since there's no more customers but malaeee change am for us. We're just paying shop rent while hoping for the best. She went into frozen food business Na the same issues.

  11. The country is hard due to money circulation. It has reduced by almost 50% and its due to our government and economic factors. Nigerians rush every business that booms because they are greedy and always desperate for money (even those who have). They’re always putting their eye on what their neighbor is doing and it’s bad. It takes you years to come up with an idea and some illiterate fools come and copy till it casts.

    1. Thank you very Much. Nigerians love to copy a lot. Start up something and do well in it...they all jump into it.

  13. I agree with this we do not have strong economic policies and/or laws to prevent unhealthy competition.my mum was the first to own a super market on a street about two years later, there were supermarkets on every street and business became tough. The best way to do business in Nigeria is to enter businesses with high barriers to entry and that means that financially it's impossible for many people to get in to it...

  14. why not try other business like Keke napep hire purchase ,cooperative food society ,rentals and

  15. Things been like that SINCE o,I remember how all our church members changed their cars to my mum's the moment she gets back from Cotonou😁
Mostly of the time she doesn't know what she's buying till she gets there/buy something different from the one she intended, she would be trying to show us the one she bought (while awaiting fa-ya-wo to bring the car into town)but it will be very few and we may not see it for days but once the car comes and she cruise few weeks, same model don plenty😅 bcos people will ask once it comes why she bought that one, then gist of how its not so expensive and fuel usage is low go full ground😁
What's this other coy like gokada?they are so many now all bikes get orange/green jacket..
We forget passion because of greed&survival!!

  16. In my area, I started frozen food and orisirisi food stuff, was doing it and making madt sakes and profit before I know it,5 people landladies o I met them on the street started the business. I had to stop and face strictly wine, spirits and pet drinks, now they have changed to it while other 2 people has joined making 8 of us on the same street. Presently,I don't even know what to add to the business to give me more sales and profit.lest I forget I started agency banking another person just open opposite me without POS (ki won sa ma ranju mo titemi) sincerely I don't know what to add that they will find difficult to imitate immediately

    1. If you were to go around collecting dog shit and selling it they would go into dog shit business too. I despise when ppl go into a similar business jam their business right next to yours. If you are inspired at least have the dignity to go setup shop elsewhere.

    2. So frustrating and very common in this Nigeria, the copy copy is out of hand and worst the people have no shame.

      Delete
    3. Imagine. Why can't they be original and come up with their own idea?

      Delete
  17. so correct, once someone start any type of business others will copy as long as you are making sales. They will never be creative till you start something.

  23. Salon, POS, catering, events planning, make up and gele, provision store, etc.
One lady on my street started a crayfish, egusi and ogbono business. She also had a manual grinder if you want it blended. I was happy for her because it was a first and people were really patronizing her. That was two months ago. As at this morning, I saw about three other people doing the same business, same style and not far from the woman.
    Humans!
