Period Tales

Can you relate to this picture?

All the Cramps, sleepless nights, mood swings and lot more can make some Ladies behave crazy.....

Years back,I know a lady who anytime shes 'perioding' she practically becomes temporarily crazy. One time she wore up from sleep typing just wrapper and slippers and took a Molue Bus to a far destination..Her family found her later in Hospital unconscious......she got better after the period was over....

It happened every month...

Do you have any period tales to share?
Let's hear them...

    1. I don't eat on the first day because chewing that period seems like torture. My first and fourth day kinda hellish; the pain is from my abdomen to the anus.

    6. @Onome you are super lucky.
I remember passing out one time from the pains. From stomach pains to back pains, waist pains, diarrhoea, sometimes I throw up, feel dizzy, painful nipples. Something I might overlook on a good day will irritate me and i just want to be left alone. If i go to pee, I must change because i will be very irritated...and this goes on for 5 days.
Thank God for women...it is well with us.

    7. Mine used to be painful, i have rushed some examination process just to get out of the hall and find a place to endure the pain. I missed geography exam in ss3 because of pain, i couldnt take anything cold or sugary, it used to affect my bones and i couldn't stay anywhere cold.
My cousin had it so bad, shes come outside the house in her pant not bothering who was looking.
My elder sister has fainted from the pain and practically takes injection and is placed on drip because she cant eat anything...
All these have changed, since we had our kids and we had them through cs, sometimes i cant even believe i ever went through such pain.

  2. Mine is right from my ovulation day till my period comes wallahi ba Lafia fa. I do have headache, abdominal pain, back pain, discharge, high temperature and dizziness. 3 days after ovulation my breast will start paining me and my nipples will start hurting like mad this will continue till the end of my period.. honestly I'm tired, another new thing now is itchy during ovulation i don't even know if it's normal or not.

    1. Your own is tougher than mine oh. Visit a good doctor to confirm if the itching is normal especially since you ar having discharge.

    2. My own is ‘local acupuncture’ when the period pain comes. There was a day I didn’t expect the ol’lady and I almost fainted in pain. Mehn, I had to take a pin and started pricking myself in different parts of my body. I was able to bear the pain till I got home. It kinda helps centralize the pain so it’s easier to manage.

      Delete
    3. Shyla, don't you bleed from these various places? Is there a specific location you prick, or do you prick anywhere from head to toe?

      I'm intrigued.

      Delete
    4. I don’t prick till I draw blood. You know like when you just lightly keep pricking at random places. If I am in the office I just concentrate on my hands, arms and thighs. If you have toothpick, you can use too. Just something sharp that will keep distracting you from the pain in the stomach and spread it evenly.

      I understand u, even d itchy.
At this point i dread period. When i got my birth control i was happy bcoz i tot i ll escape if period dont come but nope. If period dont come, i ll still ovulate, so d shit is real.
      Am tired.

  3. I only notice minor cramps and HEAVY flow when I take anything sugary few days to my menstrual cycle.

My roommate in school used to use double pads and between 8.00am and 12.00pm of going to church and coming back, she would be stained.
One close to our room then would place a permanent bucket beside her bed for vomiting throughout her menstrual days.

I felt so much pity for them.

  4. Once I am on I dislike having people around me, both male and female.i prefer to be left alone till I am done then we can go back the way we all usually relate.

The mood swing is something else, the pains is on another level. I dislike going out once I am on. I start acting like a pregnant woman, I hardly eat, drink, do anything. Just to lay down.

My elder sister she must be taken to hospital and place in drip. When she finally became nurse, she was very strong to do it for herself. Once she start feeling weak she put herself on drip, hammer her bum bum with injection. Her kids now assist her since they are all grown up. She is planning to take off the whole sack since she is done with child bearing.

I have a friend she must faint every month. Once she faint then everyone knows she is on, women are really going through alot. Men if your woman is on her period please treat her right, pet her cos that season in her life is a very difficult one.

    3. @ Goodness, also freshly squeezed scent leaves can do the magic. If you notice your period is about to come and you are guilty of sugary stuff, just squeeze like half a cup a day or two days before your period and your pain will reduce.

  6. I usually have very serious cramps two days before my period and the pain would continue to the second day of my period before releasing me. This cramps will start from my abdomen and then to my anus.

And my heavy flow is a story for another day.
I am happy that about three or four years ago, I finally found the best sanitary pad for me. A slim fit pad made for heavy flow. And its far better than Always pads.

But, I noticed that I didn't feel any pains at all this month. Maybe its because I am relaxed and not stressed out.

    2. When I first started menstruating, na die for the whole five days... Sometimes, I purge through out that I will become so weak, sometimes it's just abdominal pain right down to my anus, sometimes ehn, my anus go dey seize like say thunder dey strike for there, sometimes due to the pains I will be looking for cold floor to lie untop, I no go fit chop or do anything.. Nobody should dare call my name (I was always angry and pissed at everything) I just want to be left alone. Sooooo much discomfort!

Then, I started using pain relief drugs to relief it whc worked. Then, like 8 months later my cycle changed to just 3days flow, since then for years now I menstruate for just 3days and I've never had heavy flow, infact I can wear a white attire while menstruating.

Years later, I heard speculations about how bad taking drugs is (then, I worked on enduring the pain and avoid taking pain relief drugs) ọmọ, I Wan die.. I no dey fit do anything when it comes!!!

I started exercising a lot, took lots of water.. Brethrens, the pain more like stopped totally every month that I hardly know when this thing Wan show again, then I learnt taking warm water with milk, warm bath, everything warm through out the period days helps.. That's how I've been surviving the pain o

If I stop exercising for months, I will feel pain during the flow so I just take plenty warm stuff to cope, so the pain only last for the first day, the remaining days I'm free of it.

αΊΈ no easy o but it got better for me.

    3. @ excited, there is this pad that few supermarkets sell. It’s Always but because it comes in a carton, they can’t sell it with the carton but it’s always like 20 in a pack each. There is no name on the packs but it’s Always cos I have seen the carton.
Infact eh, if you have heavy flow, just go and get it. It’s thick, very long to cover up to your front and back that when you sleep, you can scatter your legs anyhow sef. Lol
If you want I can send you a picture of what it looks like so you look out for it. Send your email. I know Ebeano sells it though.

    4. My sister uses pampers or she doubles her pad like 3-4..it flows like a tap

    5. Tade, everything warm works cos it helps to melt the blood for it to flow out easier. The easier it flows=less pains. It's best to avoid cold water from a day to your period to after your period. If possible, drink only warm water. Drink hot tea and eat hot food. Hold warm water in a bottle to the lower part of your stomach. Avoid sugary foods. And try and be as comfortable as you can.

  8. I'm grateful to God. I've never taken drugs or anything to ease menstrual pain...A week to my period I get irritated easily, mood swings and some body changes and mild cramp. Period days, manageable cramps day 1 particularly and the rest days I'm good.

When my Coz told me her ordeal long ago when we were little, it was strange to me, she came visiting and was asking for drugs to take, I told her I wasn't aware they take drugs for period pains. She looked at me and said lucky you.

Though I don't take drugs but it took me a long time to learn to manage the mood swings that came with my period, if you don't know me well, you'll think I'm a differnt person a week to my flow. My countenance, my attitude, my responses, irritation. It was so bad, I thought something was wrong with me growing up till I figured out its always happening during my monthly flow then I learnt to manage it. My aunt said I should prepare for pregnancy, saying little things will put me off when it's time. I dey wait.

  11. I used to have acute menstrual cramps that made me miss lectures back in the university days. There in the foundation class of our campus fellowship, we were taught about breaking of bread, using unleavened bread (bread without yeast) and grapevine wine like Jesus taught. And that people are "weak and sick" for neglecting it; 1 Cor. 11:29-30. Before then, I had never partaken in breaking of bread. I prayed to the Lord to heal me of severe dysmenorrhea (that's what the doctors called it because I often got admitted in hospitals).
After the service, I forgot it.
Then tragedy happened. Some weeks after that, I got up from the class seat after lectures only to discover that my seat had been stained with blood...how? I was so afraid. I ran to the toilet to check and it was indeed my menses. I still had to go to the hospital to be sure, and the doctor told me the same. She too was confused having admitted me before for severe menstrual cramps.

    1. so you got healed after that day and the cramps have stopped?

      Delete
    2. @DeHerione
YES; for a decade plus, I've not had it again. In fact, I learnt to bake unleavened bread myself and buy bottled grapevine wine and do communion at home after that incident. Jesus taught us to do it "as often as we can..." 1 Cor. 11:25, Acts 2:46
There are a lot in God's Word, if we will pay attention to him.

I remember in school, my period started on the day i had one tough exam to write ,i don’t normally take drugs(all i do is to relax ,use hot water to massage my abdomen and sleep), but no time for all these processes so my friend gave me one tablet she said works for her ...
Taking that tablet was what made everything escalate,i could barely concentrate in the hall,i was sweating profusely, serious cramps, everyone was rotating in front of me ,it was so bad.. i could not remember anything i read.
I tried to explain how i was feeling to the lecturer in charge of the course but either he was in a bad mood at the time,or he did not just have sympathy, he yelled at me and embarrassed me more in the hall🀦🏽‍♀️.
I had to submit the blank answer sheet like that ,failed the course, and wrote it again the following year...
I will never forget this experience .

  33. On a scale of 1-10,with 10 being the highest pain for me is 5, not so much and can easily be relieved by drinking hot tea or simply laying on my stomach.

Menstrual headaches are much more painful for me and I experience them every month, unfailingly. They come 2-3 days into the period and last till 2 days after so I keep pain killers on hand for that reason, not for menstrual pain.

  34. Let me drop this here, maybe, I can get help. I was on levofem contraceptive for just 2months then stopped, for 3months now no show, my period has been very irregular, I am on my period now, making it just 20 days cycle. From my research it means I'm not ovulating. Please can anyone suggest what I can take? I want to be pregnant.

  36. Before I started having babies, it was hell!! I have always had very short period of 48hrs but the first twelve hours would see me confessing known and unknown sins. The diarrhea, the vomiting two days pre-period, through the period and three days post-period. I could never gain weight because I'd lose appetite totally for those days.
My mum took me to the gynecologist and after series of examinations, he recommended a curettage which my mother turned down and the Dr said the next option was to manage until I got married and pregnancy would curb it. I didn't know what a curettage was but I needed a relief. I cried that my mother was wicked and loved to see me suffer. I just went every month to take shots of feldene that almost never helped. Mum was always prepared to do the lower Tommy and waist massage every month.
When I was getting married, my biggest joy was getting pregnant and having babies and putting all the period trauma behind me. I didn't know the underlying cause of the traumatic period had never been touched, thereby creating terrible pregnancy experience. Everything I suffered in 48hrs of period, I suffered for 6months nonstop, going in and out of the ER like a regular staff. After series of numerous tests, I was diagnosed with hormonal imbalance. I ended up with three pre-term babies. The last one almost sent me off.
Right now, the pain is as good as nonexistent. I don't even take pain killers anymore.

  37. Period pain is terrible! I don't wish it on any lady. And I heard labour Pain is worst than itπŸ˜₯πŸ˜₯.

Mine used to be so bad that I'll be in bed all day. No appetite. Bad mood swings. Thanks be unto God, it's better now.

I feel some pains occasionally but with paracetamol, little exercise, hot green tea and water bath, I feel better.

I made a change in my diet. No sugar at all. No cold drinks/water.

It's not easy to be a woman.

  43. Mine has reduced drastically compared to my teen years.

Only have heavy flow on the day 1.
Then the 4th day, have painful cramps due to one annoying clot of blood that wants to flow out.

Soon as that clot comes out, the cramp stops..then period ends shortly after.

  45. I guess am lucky when it comes to menstrual pain. I rarely feel any pain at all and my period is not usually heavy. The first and second day by 3rd day its gone just little spotting.
The only thing is that I get easily irritated then and I usually find it difficult to eat cos my tummy will be full, thats for the first day, after the first day every thing goes back to normal.
It even better after my first and second delivery.
My period does not usually come untill 1 and half years after delivery and it's even milder now than before.at times I don't even know, I just feel that am wet.

I vomit, stool and become totally useless during mensuration. Mood swings nko? When people talk, I get irritated! But I heard when u start giving birth, the pain will disappear (I really hope it's true cos I don't wanna continue like this). I have tried ginger, hot wager etc but e be like say the pain too stubborn

I also try to stay at home because I can sack my workers for cracking dry jokes or doing things I will normally have overlooked. It's time for everyone to dey dia dey.

Spice tat shit does nothing, some even said when you get married everything will stop once you give birth. Lies of the heart because my elder sisters are still experiencing same issue, I even have a sister that has stopped giving birth she is still going through same challenge.

  63. I normally hve painful menstruation
And heavy folw to the extent
That I started seeking for solution for my heavy flow,a frnd of mine told
Me to always consume vitamin K
As it helps to reduce the flow.

So last year August on the 1st day of
My period I took the vitamin K
My period lasted for just 2days I was so happy and relieved I never knew
Wat I got myself into.u need to see how happy I was that I hve gotten a
    Permanent solution to my problem.
The next month been september was the height of it all.
to the extent i thought I wanted to die,i started confessing my sin's to God and asking for mercy.
    It all started around 2am
To think my period just came out
    That night unexpectedly.It was late
So I couldn't buy my vitamin k.i just took pracetamol to relief me of the cramps( I normally take 4 piece of pracetamol) at a time. The pains was so much that I couldn't endure
I was shouting and crying/shouting out in pains.
Everyone woke up in my hus both my siblings and neighbors.i started throwing up it got so bad that @ point
I became so weak I couldn't even shout
It was a near death experience.

Infact eh I saw hell everyone
Was crying and begging me to tell them d truth if I did Abortion.
and the blood was just too much it was flowing non-stop.

Finally i was rushed to the hospital for proper treatment.
That very period lasted for 10days
    All throughout heavy flow.
Infact u needed to see me then
    After the period issue
I looked like a working corpse.

That experience made me appreciated my Creator so much.

As a man, I confess that I have been inconsiderate to what women suffer, and I sincerely apologize.

From today, I'll be more sympathetic.
