Comedian AY Reveals Reason For Rift Between Him And Colleague Basketmouth

Are these two talented men still not talking? HABA; Why are they behaving like women? (Oops!)
Hmmmm after reading through, it would take a miracle for Basketmouth not to respond to this cos it puts him in a really bad spot...

He said; "In 2006, yes I remember I'm 2006, "this beef", that's for you to know where it's coming from. In 2006, basketmouth will usually get gigs, like weddings, because you know when you are the rave of the moments, you can get multiple gigs on a Saturday, maybe 2 to 3 weddings, so what he will do at that point in time was to go and attend one, then at some point leave this venue, catch up with the other venue and you will need somebody to stand in, that was the opportunity I got from him at the time, which I am very appreciative of till date".

"Now, something funny happened, one of the gigs per say.... I got his endorsement to go to stand in, usually what we get at that time was 30 thousand naira and 30 thousand naira at that time was everything to me,30 thousand naira will buy me my pack of indomie, recharge cards, fuel for my I better pass my neighbor generator and then opportunity to just pay one or two people to just join me to do one or two skits, that I can just quickly put out. So,I got this job and the people were not really too happy seeing me around at the venue because they were expecting basketmouth to come. To cut the long story short, the guy was later happy after the performance and I think there was an exchange of numbers and everything, then I left".

"This gig also came through one of his guys, through one of basketmouth guys and all that. So,2 weeks running I hadn't seen 30 thousand naira,so because I didn't see 30 thousand naira and I was starving at Iponri as a bachelor. Then I decided to ask for the 30 thousand naira and he said this person hasn't remitted and the person hasn't paid and they are not happy. I was like, this person, shebi you tell me say you were impressed and you were happy, give my oga money na, make my oga settle me and all that. Me, I don't care if you give basketmouth 100 thousand naira for the job,but my 30 thousand naira is my 30 thousand naira. But,it was very funny to now hear from them knowing that this full payment has been made long before the event or why did you think the guy was upset. I said okay,is that the situation and all that. So basketmouth sent me a message saying
"what kind of stupid talk is this person saying",that they have given me money so I'm now in the middle. Then what did was I forwarded this one message to this one and forwarded this one message to this other person.

"So, they now started fighting each other and all of that,I didn't do that because I wanted to get at basketmouth per say, this was in 2006. I did that because I was hungry,I did that because I needed food on the table at the time. So,if I have gotten any other opportunity that brought me 30 thousand naira,I will probably forfeit this one I worked for. So, the master said, that's it for this thing AY did, I'm not going to work with him anymore or I'm not going to do anything with him,I'm not going to do this... nothing, our path will never cross all of that".

In August 2021, Basketmouth revealed that he fell out with AY because the comedian messed with loyalty.
During an interactive session with fans on Instagram in 2022, AY stated that Basketmouth has a superiority complex.
In 2022, the pair confirmed they were not on talking terms after they were spotted avoiding each other in public.

    1. Well some people are not worth being your friends again, be cordial o, but it’s okay not to remain friends.

I watched the podcast, and they were both wrong, I don’t like when people collect numbers of personal clients, then go ahead and exchange chats … no matter the excuse, it’s giving “jamming heads” especially when I took you as a friend and have helped you in the past, then one default, you misbehave.

From Ay’s perspective I can also understand, he wasn’t thinking straight cus he was hurt and hungry and probably felt he was being played so he wasn’t thinking beyond the 30k… yes he is successful today but someone who could consider you for a job also had your best interest at heart.
Basket mouth should have paid him as agreed.

I felt the client was upset that basketmouth dint show up(even though he loved Ay’s performance) so he probably dint pay the balance, and basket must have spent the initial deposit and was hoping on the balance to settle At.

They both acted out of greed and immaturity, I know basket may have felt really hurt (especially exchanging my chats with a client when he must have said insultive things in that chat in the heat of the moment) to make that statement of never speaking to him again but common this is 2023 for crying out loud. I avoid people who cannot forgive.
Thank God they are both successful

If this is by any means true then Basket is not just the definition of a wicked friend but he’s also a toxic boss. I believe that Basketmouth can do this even though I don’t like AY either. I used to supply food on the set of Flatmate in 2018-2019 (Thanks to Buchi) but nobody on that set gave me attitude the way Basketmouth and Wofai did and I in turn deliberately decided not to take their orders for avoidance of a confrontation. So many celebrities are shitty outside what we see on the screen.

    1. What do you mean gave you attitude??? Explain. Don’t just come here and give us your own conclusion. I have met Basketmouth in person. Ran into him with my elder bro and the way he greeted us, especially my brother you go think say we know am from way back. He was speaking pidgin with us sef. So when you say they gave you attitude, explain yasef.

You deserve to be giving attitude, Biko.🙁😎

  4. AY shouldn't have exchanged contracts with basket's clients..
    You don't do that..

It's like you working for someone, the person gave you a job to do, and you begin to directly report to the owner of the job without your boss consent,. It means you want to take over the client from your boss..

I'm sure AY knows this,. It's mostly an unwritten agreement in this kind of arrangement.. as at then, they haven't gotten to the stage were they write and sign an agreement that binds them as they were still hustlers and didn't know much about how they could do this..

Basket should have paid him tho, or tell him the reason why he held back his payment instead of just saying they haven't paid

not want to pay AY, AY said hunger dey mama am ,wenti you want make him do, Basket mouth could have come clean but he chose to be wicked.

    5. Hunger will make you block the little opportunity that someone gave you? Will the exposure not count for something? Yes, Basketmouth should pay him the agreed amount but if it wasn't the first job he was sending his way and he had been paying in the past, why not give him time to sort out the issue? What if the person he said connected the job took the money and basketmouth wasn't aware? Why knock their heads together by forwarding the texts he got from basketmouth to the client and the clients to basketmouth? They sent the texts to him, why forward it to the person they were talking about and most likely not in a good light. Why ruin Basketmouth's relationship with the client, knowing fully well that their job is heavy on word of mouth referrals and repeat customers? People in the industry still speak of the opportunities they got through Basketmouth. Who in that industry can come out to say that AY gave them the same opportunity when he finally blew? Bovi was with him for years and it wasn't until basketmouth helped him that he got a shot to really make a name for himself. Instead of being happy for the guy, he started vexing that basketmouth stole his protege. Once bitten, twice shy. Basketmouth should keep dealing with him with a very long spoon.

    6. No matter the level of hunger, you don’t bite the hands that fed you, going as far as sending your friends chat? Ahh I will actually avoid you, but I won’t cut you off.
I am happy Ay acknowledged his own fault, and I hope he apologized… if basket chooses not to forgive, that’s his cup of kunu, but please never collect a friends clients contact, that’s unprofessional.

    7. I'm sure he knew his backstabbing wasn't lost on BM. He can blame it on hunger all he wants but he knows what he did and that's why he is always the one "shalaye-ing" about their beef. Someone that was giving you jobs when 30k meant the world to you is the person you told the world has superiority complex instead of telling people the truth which has finally started coming out. I'll be surprised if Basketmouth responds. Funke's style of never responding sure pass. It drives the person crazy and they keep yapping.

Wetin Basket do no good if it is true but AY no try.

    10. He had no right contacting the client to ask for his "boss' " payment. It was not his place and purposely forwarded basketmouths text to the client to steal that client. How do you forward the client a text of basketmouth calling his name's? Which client in this world will be happy receiving such? He probably didn't know that the client wouldn't keep mum about it.

    11. Oh, Dante!
This your comment complete reach house.

I walked into a building under construction to ask for workers numbers. The electrical contractor's boy refused to give me his own number. He insisted on giving his master's number. He also told him about my enquiry, which the master confirmed when we eventually met.

Sometimes, we wey go school no know reach the trades men and their boys.

    12. So exchanging contact details with my boss clients means I am biting the finger? I don’t necessarily have to work with the clients but he/she can refer me for a different type of gig. And as a boss, I don’t care if my subordinates collect my client contact as long as you don’t ruin my reputation. I wish you the best.

    1. Exchanging Numbers is not the issue
Forwarding BM’s message where he called the guy a foolish guy etc is why BM is upset
He ruined BMs relationship with the guy and I don’t see why he doesn’t get that

Why should BM pay without getting paid
aY was not an employee of BMs
He was to split the payment from the client and BM said he has not received it

    2. 👌🏾Anon 16:28 & 18:03. Reading most of the comments explains why Justice is perverted in Naija. Someone did a job on your behalf. He cannot collect contact again? How is he going to build his clientele base too. I have collected phone numbers of comedians at friend’s children’s weddings have options when my own are getting married! The client may not want to use BM next time, after-all these guys crack the same jokes!

The one that is most concerning is to minimize not paying wages on one flimsy lie or the other. BM got paid and lied. Just like the govenors who withhold salaries for 8 months! Some justifying BM are being owed salaries. If AY didn’t have the guy’s no, BM could have lied for a year that he had not been paid. AY would have suffered hunger, loss of opportunities due to inability to buy recharge cards, etc. It was a smart thing to do to collect the guy’s no. If BM called the client foolish after getting a job from the guy, why aren’t you all blaming BM who

      1. Didn’t care if his friend starved or not
      2. Called someone who gave him a job “foolish” to cover his track of not paying as agreed.

There is little hope of justice if the system was like the jury system in 🇺🇸where it is regular people that decide on a case as jurors. Critical thinking is needed. A hungry man just needs his money. Forwarding texts is the reason we all have to be transparent. BM didn’t seem transparent or honest. Inviting the wife & excluding AY at his wedding is very infantile.

      Delete
    3. 22:37 did the guy show him proof
Why would he believe a client over BM that was giving him gigs and paying him

      Delete
    4. You realize BM was “defrauding” his clients by charging like he was coming and sending a junior colleague with lower billing rate. I can’t see anything to support in dishonest & exploitative behavior. He betrayed his clients by overbooking while picking which one he will attend & how long he will. Why not just let them know he was overbooked? If you accompany your boss (and he wasn’t even AY’s boss) to Oprah’s office and she asks for YOUR number, give yours, don’t give your senior colleague’s number, she probably already has that. It’s NOT betrayal. Weddings are supposed to be once in a lifetime and if the client has 4 kids, they pray for only 4 weddings. It’s not like yearly birthdays so I don’t see the betrayal

      Delete
    5. Ay be like say he get betraying spirit because na him still come out come dey explain, and many people loose their jobs and contacts by exchanging numbers with their bosses client, many people see it as disloyalty

  11. If you people are waiting for a robust reply from Basket, una go wait tire. That guy that doesn’t respond to nonsense 🤣🤣🤣

  12. The issue was the payment not the contact details exchange. BM should have come clean if he spent the money but he thought as AY is his boy, he would do it for free. AY should have also been more emotionally intelligent with BM. Life has happened, they should end the malice as trumpet fit blow anytime. Peace to them.

  13. Ahn!...na the real issue be this abi abeg something else dy?

    1. It’s very deep cause AY showed he didn’t trust BM

  14. It seems BM is in the habit of delaying payment. He wanted to hustle AY out of his payment and also devalue AY by saying the client was not happy with his performance. He didn't do well.

Exchanging contact is not the issue, it is exchanging the messages between the client and Basketmouth. That is betrayal. Both of them needs to apologise to one another.

    1. If you are overbooked as a professional, the right thing to do is not collect payment and scam your clients by working for few mins and asking someone else to do it for less. The right thing is to say, “I’m overbooked but ABC will do a very good job so hire him”. We are so used to doing things wrong. Not only did he scam his clients as a HABIT, he attempted to exploit his junior colleagues and some talk of betrayal? Many guests even collect the phone numbers of good MCs at weddings. Should he have said “no”? How will he build his brand.

How is it betrayal when nobody does wedding party every year unlike birthdays? Does the client have a wedding per quarter? Many on Bm’s side are owed salaries by the government, it’s the same wicked mindset of “I can get away with it, they are struggling so they dare not confront me”. That’s why Nigerians get such wicked government officials who put their salaries in fixed deposits to yield interest for them! Too much excuse of bad behavior is going on.

Some clients could sue him for his dishonest habit. You got paid for Trevor Noah to anchor a show and bring Dulcé. Not that Dulcé is not good but the bill was based on Trevor!

How is this different from coming under some other people’s comment on SM & begging for money, patronage or follower-ship. It’s under another person’s comment, not betrayal, it’s brand building!

Have you not noticed that once you search the internet for an iPhone, all the ads you see will be Samsung, Sony phone and accessory ads from then on? It’s the basis of digital marketing. I don’t like to conclude that BM is arrogant and exploitative but he gives off such vibes. I watched his interview with his ex-wife where he was so condescending, talking to her like he did her a favor by marrying her. Only God knows what that woman saw in those years before they separated.

The guy needs to change. If you listen further, AY said he apologized but the guy said “he is a beast, he does not forgive”. To invite Mabel & exclude AT at BM’s wedding is so petty. Anyway, there are too many “money miss road new moneyed” folks now that need finishing schools as they carried their “need to be adored” mindset around after making some money. It’s good that AY is now saying it as an equally, if not more successful entertainer but it’s 17 years, BM needs to get over himself. I say BM because it’s obvious AY has reached out. If someone asks for your phone no at a party catered by another caterer, if you don’t give yours out then you miss out. The sky is big enough! See how the online skit makers are collaborating? Left to the likes of BM with his behavior back then, he will be a middleman, exploiting them!
