NJC Orders Compulsory Retirement Of 10 Judges Over Age Falsification And Misconduct

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has ordered the compulsory retirement of 10 judges from the Imo State Judiciary over age falsification and misconduct, following its 109th meeting held on June 25, 2025.

Nine judges were found to have altered their dates of birth in official records to unlawfully extend their tenure.
A tenth judge, Justice T.N. Nzeukwu, was retired for violating judicial hierarchy by accepting appointment as Acting Chief Judge despite being fourth in seniority—contrary to Section 271(4) of the Nigerian Constitution.

 Judges Affected

High Court Judges:
Justice M.E. Nwagboso
Justice B.C. Iheka
Justice K.A. Leaweanya
Justice Okereke Chinyere Ngozi
Justice Innocent Chidi Ibeawuchi

Customary Court of Appeal Judges:
Justice Tennyson Nze
Justice Ofoha Uchenna
Justice Everyman Eleanya
Justice Rosemond Ibe

Other: Justice T.N. Nzeukwu (for misconduct, not age falsification)

NJC’s Broader Actions Directed Governor Hope Uzodinma to appoint the most senior judge as Acting Chief Judge.
Barred Justice Isaac J. Essien of the National Industrial Court from promotion for 3 years over unrelated misconduct.
Recommended 21 new judicial appointments across various states.

  1. This news is deeply troubling. Judges who are entrusted with upholding the law, have been found falsifying their age to extend their time in office. This act is very shameful considering their role in maintaining law and order. Age falsification is common practice among civil servants in our dear country. SAD!

  2. They decided to do what most civil servants does.
One of my church member said she gain employment using her first child age, a deaconess for that matter. It's already telling on her but greed won't let her resign

  5. Age falsification is not good...

...but Governor Hope UZODINMA who came 4th in an election was declared winner over Emeka Iwedioha by the Supreme Court of Nigeria!

    DOUBLE Standard!!!

Let this not be a way of appoint their stooges as Justices to help crooked politicians end up in the saddle of government through court judgment. 🤔
