Heartbreaking Story

Oluwaseun Joan Stephen is the founder of PSPHF and became a widow in July 2020 when her husband was killed by a stray bullet. She was pregnant with her 3rd child.

''5 years today I received the most devastating news.
I’m doing my best not to replay the events of that day by the hour but it’s not working.
8am: woke up to a clean house as my husband had got up much earlier to clean, bathe the children and made us breakfast.
9 am: He said he had to go out and alarm bells went off in my Spirit.
I explained how I was feeling to him and asked that he stay home with us that day and delayed him as long as I could.

12 pm: He decided to go see why his attention was needed and promised he’d be back in two hours.

2pm: The next time I looked up at the clock and he hadn’t returned and I was unsettled for some reason.

3 pm: My neighbor knocked “don’t panic” your husband has been rushed to Doreen hospital AJAH.

I got the children and I ready and from the moment I saw him, it was as though time stood still for me but kept moving at the same time.

The police were doing their Job with no sense of urgency, Madam it was a bullet to the head, Wema bank’s bullion van encountered arm robbers and your husband and other people were in a Keke Napep on that road.

I was like a mad woman, with two screaming children, blood everywhere.
People were taking videos of me.
Why is he not in the theater “madam we don’t have blood”, the hospital staff hooked Patrick up with to an IV and left him in the keke to die.

No empathy as the doctor I was pleading with acted like I was bothering him and after he finally agreed to see him, he said “he’s gone”.

Just like that.
We deposited his body in the mortuary after confirming at a hospital in Marina and I had to sign something with shaky hands…

He said he’d be back in two hours….
I got home and washed my bloody hands in the sink, cleaned Patrick’s bloodstained phone too.

There began my journey of widowhood.
God has been so good to me.
Forever Loved.
Forever missed.

She began making videos on her instagram page about her struggle as a young widow and in no time widows from different parts of the world began seeking her out and sharing their struggles with her.
Her passion to see her fellow widows thrive grew and the foundation was born.

    1. Japa To where?
No where is safe, it's just Grace.
In your most loved countries, it's either a crazy citizen pulls out a gun in a crowded place and shoots people or you will just be on your own, one crazy person will pull out a knife and start stabbing you and others.

  17. According to her, she delayed him from going out the time he wanted to only to go out later and then this incident happened. Maybe if only he went out when he wanted to, he'll be back before the unfortunate incident, and maybe it would still have happened anyways. Who knows?
These are some permanent regrets we sometimes live with in this imperfect world 🌎

    1. These were my same thoughts. The delay likely changed the timeline and caused him and the bullet to meet, though we may never know for a certainty. She felt funny because her spirit knew it was going to be a bad day, unfortunately she did not know the chain of events or what to do to prevent it.

A very horrible story. All to best to this grieving family, May they find peace one day.

    2. Maybe he was destined to die that day. If he had gone out in the morning like he wanted to, maybe he would still have died in another way like accident or a gall or something.
Even inside the house, he may still have died like slipping and hitting his head on the hard floor, gas explosion, electrocution, etc

The best was the wife should have fasted and prayed to avert the calamity

    3. Na lie, don't push the blame on the woman. He was meant to stay indoor that day without stepping out, that way the evil would had been averted. Had it been he listened to her, that death would had been averted.

    4. I agree anon 1717. I read about a woman in Texas on holiday when she noticed the river in their resort was rising. She told her husband let's get out and they did and she saved her family. My point is when your intuition tells you something always listen. The Holy Spirit is never wrong.
