After experiencing sadness and sorrow, Ruth decided to follow her mother-in-law, Naomi, from Moab - her own country - to Bethlehem. Moab was a nation of idol worshippers, but she decided to forsake the idols she had grown up with to worship the God of Israel. She must have also left many childhood friends and close relatives behind - she practically left her old life to start a new one.
We cannot keep holding on to the past if we want to experience a new level of breakthrough. We must let go of our past lives and old habits to receive the new things God has for us.
Ruth found her breakthrough in Bethlehem because she served and followed the good advice she often received from her mother-in-law. She was a hardworking woman, and her diligence made Boaz notice her among the other workers on his field and show her favour (Ruth 2:1-16).
If we want to experience new breakthroughs in our lives, we must obey the word of God completely. We must also seek and follow godly counsel while ensuring that we are diligent in all we do.
