UBA Wins Nigeria’s Best Bank For Retail And ESG At 2026 Euromoney Awards

Africa’s Global Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has strengthened its position as one of the continent’s leading financial institutions after winning Nigeria’s Best Bank for Retail and Best Bank for Sustainability Leadership (ESG) at the 2026 Euromoney Awards for Excellence held in London.  on July 17, 2026.


The double win highlights UBA’s leadership in sustainable finance and its rapid growth in retail banking across Africa. Euromoney praised the bank for major ESG milestones, including its Green Financing Facility, a ₦5 billion programme for women‑owned businesses, and its commitment to achieving net‑zero emissions by 2050. UBA has also deployed solar energy solutions across 50 branches and trained over 16,000 staff in ESG practices.

In retail banking, UBA expanded its customer base to over 37 million by the end of 2025, with retail revenue rising to ₦429.5 billion. The bank’s AI chatbot, LEO, also earned recognition for becoming Africa’s first AI banking platform to enable cross‑border transfers through PAPSS.
Group CEO Oliver Alawuba said the awards affirm UBA’s commitment to delivering value while driving sustainable development across Africa. 

Group Head of Marketing, Alero Ladipo, added that the recognition reflects UBA’s dedication to customer‑focused innovation and meaningful impact.
