Drama King Teejay's CORNER

When you think that you have seen it all, you might be in for a shock.

Sometime last month, there was a matter between two guys
A young man was indebted to one of these online loan apps. His debt had accrued interest up to ₦100,000 plus. Intentionally, he decided not to pay.
Being a businessman, he sold goods to a customer but the goods weren't his but from another shop he had gotten them from, which is usually the practice in most market lines. The owner of the goods after few days, requested for his money. The man who sold the goods began disturbing the customer to send the money as promised.

When the pressure got too much, the customer requested his account number. He sent him an account number with the name. The customer, not paying attention to the details, made a transfer to him but to the wrong account where he is owing a debt.
I hope you know what would happen? The lending bank quickly deducted their money. Immediately he saw the debit alert, he called the man in anger and fumed that he sent him an OPay account, why did he pay into Moniepoint? That was where the problem began.
The debt he swore never to pay has been cleared.
The man who had sent the money disclosed that when he input the number, Moniepoint appeared first bearing the same name, so he sent it in confidence. The other man wasn't having any of it.

He argued on the fact that he clearly gave him the exact bank the money should be sent to. So he was threatening to take action against him if he fails to resend the money to his Opay account.
It was at this point we got involved when we met both of them in a heated argument. From our judgement, we blamed the man for not following carefully the details in the message and advised him to be careful in money transactions.

We advised the seller to look for a way and sort things out with the owner of the goods. He shouldn't expect another payment from the man since he admitted the said account belongs to him. It's a case he can't win, not even in a law court. W

as he expecting someone else to clear his debt for him? Before we left both of them, we told the other man that if he continues to harass and threaten him, he should report him to the police.
Do you see how evil-minded people can be? This is why some persons hardly lend money to people. The greed in some humans even when they have the money, they will never pay back. They'll see it as wastage, forgetting it was something that helped them in their time of need.

Please i am confused!
How did opay appear when he wanted to pay to moniepoint? Has he paid money to the guys opay before that he had the account in his bank app already? or am i the one not understanding it?

  2. Alright Stella, let me explain. If you register the same phone number for both your OPay and Moniepoint accounts, whenever someone tries to send money to that number, both banks will appear. OPay and Moniepoint since they were registered with one number. It’s then left for the sender to choose which one to send to.

According to that man, Moniepoint appeared on top probably because he was transferring from a Moniepoint app. Just like me, if I’m using the OPay app, I prefer sending to OPay to save on transfer charges, unless you specifically don’t want the money in OPay.

Probably when he clicked the first bank that popped up, it bore the exact name he was given, so he made the payment. That’s why I usually ask which bank before sending money if I’m given a phone number. Sometimes when you input a phone number, up to three banks will appear.

  3. Stella, Opay and Moniepoint use phone numbers as account numbers so once you type in the phone number (after removing the first zero) the different banks names will show.

I have the same account number for four different banks, Zenith easy wallet, Moniepoint Opay and PalmPay.

  6. I’m not sure if the seller will lose in court
He can sue and let the court decide

    1. Oh well, it depends on his defence and how he tailors his argument.
