Doctors In House Section.

Another important one for Doctors in the House!

Asherman Syndrome Due To Evacuation.

Dear Stella, good day and how are you doing? Went for HSG after I had a miscarriage and it says I have Asherman syndrome. Goggled it found out it might be because of the evacuation I did after miscarriage.

My question is if I can still take in naturally with that condition or I will have to undergo a surgery?

If I can try IUI or if anyone knows a very good gynaecologist here in Lagos to refer me to.

    3. Olive Branch Fertility Clinic on Admiralty Way in Lekki. They're amazing. Stella never posts when I recomme them hut I swear I have nothing to do with the clinic besides being their client. If you've experienced the horror that can be fertility treatment in Nigeria from fake doctors to just rude treatment, you'd understand why I always hype Dr. Emeka. Plus, he's hot hehehehe!

Y a d&C when u cldav done an MVA..dt brings me to d question of if ur sure u did d above for d aforementioned name or for something else. Except it was a late 3rd trimester miscarriage.
Meanwhile asherman is irreversible...hold up dnt get me wrong...i ain't saying it's not possible for u to take in *btw nothing in medicine is absolute*,i'm just saying d chances are slim and ofcourse lots of money wld go down d drain.
Bt hey sister...as God liveth, miracles are bound to happen.

Leave ur email addy under ds comment and I'd send u a mail.

If u decide not to...then please go to a tertiary hospital, thats where ud see d best of dem gynaecologist.

      Goodluck.

  7. The prognosis of your condition cannot be ascertained online because we do not know the severity of the scar formation in your uterine cavity. So it depends on the advice of your doctor. If he says you need surgery before conceiving, then you have no other option but to heed his professional counsel. However, if you're a good christian, you can go on your knees and pray your way out. There's nothing he cannot do.

Note of warning to young girls: Asherman syndrome can also be caused by abortion. Close your legs ooo or your future husband will throw you out tomorrow when you cant conceive.

  14. There is a minor surgery to remove it cos I think it's like a tissue in form of cyst . It mostly caused by excessive D nC or miscarriage. U can still take in naturally.

  18. Dear Poster, i had AS for years, it's not a journey for the feeble-heart but one thing that has to be intact is your will power to surmount it. Once you take care of that, all challenges it brings will bow at your feet. First the doctor has to establish the extent of the adhesion. Are you having periods at all? Some AS patients get only cyclic pain no periods (me too). Hormonal tests are to be carried out to ascertain the range of your FSH, LH, T4, Prolactin, Thyroid, etc. ( i had hypothyroidism and prolactin was a bit high). Having HSG is always a tug of war as my cervix is almost shut, so dilation has to come first or nothing. I had many minor surgeries from Laparoscopy to HSG to SIS. Most doctors in Nigeria don't understand AS but they won't tell you, you'll be subjected to so much rigmarole. Long and short, i joined Ashermans Yahoo support group, the white people are free with info, even videos and support materials. There i met a Canadian lady living in Nigeria who led me to Prof. Olayemi, a senior gynecologist in UNTH Ibadan, he handled my Adhesiolysis(cutting off the scars), its a minor surgery. My period is returning gradually, the pains subsided but i'm yet achieve pregnancy. I'm still trying. IUI or IVF, if you have no endometrium to support the baby or the cervix is weak, how is full term pregnancy possible except by miracle. Find a good doctor who would take care of the AS first so you can have a peaceful pregnancy. I can give you doctor Olayemi's contact if you wish. To all who are still in the waiting room i encourage you with this "Until God opens the next door, praise Him in the hallway". Baby Dust to you.

  21. Hello dear, asherman can be quite tough to deal with. This is because the uterine endometrium is scarred and fused. It's like 2 plates stuck together side to side. The only way for anything to pass through is by separating both plates. You would need adhesiolysis which is a procedure to separate the "stuck" endometrial lining. It's done in federal hospitals. Kindly drop ur email. I could mail you an OBGYN specialist. Chin up and good luck.

  22. The fact that you have asherman syndrome and you were able to get pregnant at all without treatment is reassuring. All you need is adhesiolysis, better done hysteroscopically. An iucd will be left within your uterus after the procedure and you will be on cyclical hormonal support for about 3 months. These are not for contraception. The iucd occupies space and does not allow your uterine walls to plaster together while healing while the hormone helps the basalis layer of your endometrium (which must have been replaced by adhesions in asherman) to regenerate over time. Pregnancy and live birth rate after a treated asherman syndrome depend on the severity of the condition. Studies have shown about 93% pregnancy rate after mild and even 57% after severe disease. So don't despair. See a gynaecologist. Goodluck.
