Gov Ayo Fayose Says EFCC Must Stop Acting Irresponsibly

The Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has frowned at the persistent harassment of Nigerians by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing the continued detention without trial of Mr. Warimopei Dudafa, a former Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and invasion of the Abuja residence of former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode as irresponsible, barbaric and undemocratic.

Fayose said it was the height of executive rascality for the EFCC to have held occupants of Fani-Kayode’s residence hostage for eight hours despite that he was only invited to come to the EFCC office on Monday and there was no evidence that Fani-Kayode refused to honour the invitation.

According to the Governor’s Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, “EFCC under President Mohammadu Buhari is acting as if it is above the law and Nigerians and the international community must remind the commission that we are in a democracy where rule of law is sacrosanct.”

The Governor said actions of the EFCC have shown clearly that it is an instrument of victimisation against the opposition in the country, adding the anti-graft agency should go and study how anti-corruption agencies in other countries behave.

He said; “the EFCC must be reminded of the judgement delivered in March, this year by Justice Yusuf Haliru of the Federal High Court in Nicholas Arinse Vs EFCC & Nigerian Army where the judge held that the EFCC did not behave as if we were in a civilised society and that the anti-graft commission was behaving as if we were in a military dictatorship, where they arrest and release person at will.
“In the case of the former Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Jonathan, no one is saying those suspected of corrupt practices should not be investigated and tried, but it is wrong for Warimopei Dudafa to have been kept in EFCC custody for over two weeks without trial.

“Also, it is a demonstration of barbarism for the same EFCC that invited Fani-Kayode to its office on Monday to have invaded his house yesterday, holding the occupants hostage for eight hours when there is no evidence that Fani-Kayode refused to honour EFCC invitation.
“Why the show of barbarism by the EFCC as if Nigeria is now back to 1984 when Buhari was a military dictator?”

While calling on the international community to pay attention to the abuse of rights of Nigerians and threat to democracy under President Buhari, Fayose said; “It is obvious that democracy in Nigeria is becoming unsafe in the hands of Buhari’s government.”

He said Nigerians must begin to ask the EFCC what happened to the several petitions written against APC leaders and financiers of President Buhari’s election, including former governors, adding that it was worrisome that the EFCC and the Department of State Services (DSS) have become President Buhari’s instrument of political victimisation.

  4. Hehehe. Nigerians thieves ie the politicians need iron hands. If ordinary thieves are paraded in public, why can't those good for nothing politicians be harassed too. afterall there is nothing special about them and they have caused nothing to Nigerians than pains and suffering.

    1. Let's forget all that. What they did wasn't democratic. You already gave him a letter of invitation on Friday and asked him to show on Monday.. No need camping around his house. Wait till Monday, if he doesn't come then go all fully loaded with a bus to his house and camp there..

At the end of the day, when ffk went to social media, didn't they leave?? If what they were doing was right, they wouldn't have left.. When we see the truth let's acknowledge it

  8. I don't care for APC or PDP but I care for the rule of law... This man is right! We cannot turn a blind eye because it does not affect us directly or because we have already crucified the person in question in our minds, things should be done the right way. Justice should be SEEN to be done, even if someone allegedly corruptly appropriated billions, arrest and prosecute the right way... Carelessness and being in a hurry to humiliate someone may give room for technicalities which may in turn lead to letting the supposed criminal escape, because rule of law was not followed.

  10. If Fani have nothing to worry about he should have gone with the EFCC. Why hide inside his home in the name of holding him hostage? We all know how most of you politicians behave maybe he was trying to escape like others. There's no abuse of right here, inshort you all have abused our right to live the past years. If arresting, killing of you guys will take Nigeria out of our misery it will be a welcomed development.
In as much as i applaud EFCC for their fearless arrest of politicians with questionable wealth and characters. It will be nice for their office to do DUE investigation with good evidence about anyone found wanting before fast arrest and fast release.
Mr Warimopei is still under detention because he is helping the EFCC with their investigation as a looter/ middle man. Same tactics is applied all over the world when someone commit economic crime or murder. What EFCC need is court order extending his detention time and interrogation.

When Lamorde was there, we did not hear anything about their arrest or prosecution. During GEJ regime, EFCC was a joke. inshort that office was like an office only mean't for the prosecution of yahoo boys than politicians. Our political elites and PDP/APC looters were never arrested or prosecuted, now we have a working EFCC most of you are crying foul why? I have never seen any politician in Nigeria who is not "INNOCENT" or claimed to be whenever they are arrested everyone start shouting. So who are the people milking our country dry, GHOST?
If you are innocent when arrested prove your self by going to their office whenever you are invited. Just imagine Nigeria without EFCC...

If Jonathan regime did the rightful thing by arresting his foot solders or people like Amaechi, Tinubu and other opposition then, we won't get to this stage. Does it mean funds traced to looter's accounts should be let go because they belong to a certain category while someone who steal goat should be lynched?
The former DG of custom was arrested and bailed, next thing he did on bail was to run to another country with his family. Same thing happened to Obanikoro, he ran away to the US claiming to further his studies. General Amosu let his wive escape after EFCC give her bill. Even Reuben Abati use style run to London to further studies just for fear of arrest.
Someone need to answer for the financially atrocities committed under the former regime. Any honest Nigeria will know the level of looting with impunity under Jonathan regime was so bad, we have all seen evidence within the past weeks through arrest and refund. I am happy the so called arrest is not being done to a particular tribe but to all tribes.
The problem i have with Fayoso is that he does not know how to talk like an opposition member, he is just a scared man. He is scared he will be arrested and prosecuted soon as the evidence against his financial dealings are mounting. His election rigging is a huge blow to him as those who rigged for him has deserted him. Nigerians voted Buhari because they want the looting to stop and someone should be held accountable.

Mr Governor SA, ask your Boss to channel his energy into investment and production. Taking Ekiti indigenes out of poverty should be his priority. Fighting a government who is trying to clean up PDP mess is a lost battle. He should build and transform his state to be japan of south west. He should pay his workers and sort new ideas on how to better the lives of it's citizens. By his transformation action in his state Nigeria youths will invite him to lead them. #Dropmic#
