The Actors Guild of Nigeria has taken action against movie Producer Adamma Luke, for not providing life jackets for deceased actor,Junior Pope, who drowned in a river at Anam in Anambra State
The AGN has definitely suspended movies involving riverine areas and all movies shot across the nation on Thursday April 11,2024 has been indefinitely suspended.
Also, all actors are henceforth prohibited from working with Adamma Luke as a producer in any movie.
And also legal action and criminal negligence should be brought against her. When dem daddy give them small money na to become movie producer sharp sharp. Ndiuchu
ReplyDeleteYes because which kind thing be this
DeleteThe woman too dey overdo. She would have arranged safety procedures for them
DeleteGod should be helping us sha.cos sometimes too if them give you rubbish, no dey take am.if person tell you to enter boat wey them no give you life jacket, the guts to say no, fuck you, keep your money may God give it to us.

I agree. The Ogunbanjo:s are suing the helicopter company for causing the death of their son. I heard the Wigwe's are too. People made to be made to face the consequences of their actions.
DeleteThis makes me remember when my dad died and we had to go the village to sort out some things. I am from a riverine community in Delta State. I,my two sisters and out two husband were to go on that trip. We got to the riverside and asked for lifejackets for the boat trip and there were none to be had. What! This is a journey of one hour plus on water and it was only my inlaw that knew how to swim. We refused to boad the boat without life jackets and the people there were just laughing at us ,calling us fear, fear city people. That they make that journey everyday and nothing ever happens and nothing will happen to us. We refused and had to wait for quite some time before they went to get jackets for all five of us at extra cost. Imagine if something happens and five of us perished? My poor mother will just die from the shock. Thanks God we went safely and came back. My inlaw whom is a rig worker made sure the jackets were all good ones and gave us a crash course on how to survive in case of incasity. Let's all learn to be safety conscious at all times.
Good step!!!!
ReplyDeleteSometimes this people pay for these things but get disappointed. (I’m not making excuses for anyone though) . I was once with a producer that paid a costumia for particular outfits only to get disappointed at the location. JP and the crew members were not kids, they should have insisted for life jackets.
ReplyDeleteAnd when she got disappointed, another ones can't be made provisioned for? Or the shooting postponed till when everything are in order? Yes, JP and others fcuked up but you guys should just stop
DeleteJP and the rest should have insisted on wearing life vests. They were not kids.
DeleteThe Adamma Luke should be charged to court for manslaughter
Thank you oooooo when they didn’t provide life jacket and divers they should have rejected the movie roles. Nobody put a knife to their head to go shoot the movie; in this country now eh everyone should do the necessary things to safeguard their lives buy that life jacket and go along with it if you must go anywhere by boat. How will all dis sanctions bring back the lives of all the people lost. It’s just sooooo sad honestly I cannot even imagine how that woman will be able to cope with 3 children by herself not to mention the families of other people that died yesterday
Delete...buy that life jacket and go along with it if you must go anywhere by boat.
DeleteTrue! I had a colleague that took boat everyday to cross from maroko/toll area to Queens drive (to avoid Ozumba Mbadiwe's traffic after work) back in the days. Even though they provided life jackets, she bought her own life jacket and would carry it in a bag. She puts it on once she gets to the ferry spot and takes it off after the crossing.
Eye service people, This was not the first time they have been taking such risk
ReplyDeleteWhile wait until souls are lost before actions are taking
If he had refused to support this producer he would have been tagged wicked see where it has lead to.
We play with our life a lot, Nigeria employers dont care about anyone except themselves. Something their expose self wont try abroad they bring it down here and expect you to understand.
It is well God comfort their love ones.
*Tears*
Are you fighting with past tenses?
DeleteNo, do correct as English is not my mother's language.
DeleteGrammatical errors aside, her points are strong.
DeleteMay God rest his soul. What a pity.
ReplyDeleteThat is how her career went south
ReplyDeleteIt's too late sir, your organisation is not well structured, like many in this country. I am too devastated 😭😭😭
ReplyDeleteYup. They need distinct policies that govern all productions and are clearly defined and laid out with regular reviews so updates can be made where needed. Talent and crew need to know they are protected. It should not take four ppl dying first.
DeleteIt is 20fckn24, a tragedy like this should not have been possible. Four lives just gone like so🤦🏾♀️
So sad that Jnr Pope and his colleagues had to pay the price.
ReplyDeleteOver sad the thing still be me like film trick because how ?
DeleteChai! Sacrificial lamb they were😭😭
DeleteLife jacket, very important when travelling through the sea 🌊 ..
ReplyDeleteThey supposed to provide life jacket for them..
We don't take things serious in Nigeria..
May God rest their souls
Plenty unserious people in naija
DeleteMedicine after death 💔
ReplyDeleteI'm telling you. It's just so unfortunate that the deed has already been done. May God rest the souls of the departed.
DeleteSeriously
DeleteMy heart 💔 is heavy 😭😭😭😭
ReplyDeleteI was waiting for Stella to debunk his death, but you haven't. So he's truly dead. Gosh!!!😭😭
ReplyDeleteIt is well.
ReplyDeleteRIP pope
Right move.
ReplyDeleteThis is still doing me like home video. Are they really dead? Just
Like that?
So sad. May his soul rest in peace
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to wrap my head around this incident but haven't been able to. I could not sleep last night, kept reviewing the whole thing in my mind. So many things I want to say but words have failed me. Too many questions to ask but do not know where to start.
ReplyDeleteAll l can say for now is that this producer should be prosecuted. Why would she organize a boat trip without providing life jackets,eh, why would she do that? And what about the integrity of the boat drivers? How trustworthy were they?
A careless death. That's what we have here. Certainly, these deaths could have been prevented. This is the 21st century, for crying out loud. I'm so pained.
The boat driver looked like a tout sef. Chai
DeleteHonestly, may they souls rest in peace
DeleteAnd no CPR Trained personnel , na shrine be their first aid?
DeleteAt the end, the shrine did nothing for them. This is the confusion that keeps many aspects of change and progress from being achieved in Africa. Some Pastor has also brought up "old prophesy" that his father's people were after him. These type of distractions affect the necessary health and safety 🦺 policies from being implemented . Life jacket and the right safety procedures may have prevented this. AGN should please enforce that productions include safety briefings before any shoot. A brief risk analysis and mitigation strategies with all the cast, crew, vendors, etc as participants will help save others from potential accidents/incidents whether they are shooting on land , water, air...
DeleteSomeone has to die before safety measures can be done bah? Kai 💔💔
ReplyDeleteLook at him, na now day break 🙄
ReplyDeleteI'm sure there are many other things that the producers and directors neglect which the cast should complain about, they better start complaining now. In fact, the actors and actresses should stage a protest and list all the important things that their bosses neglect.
Must something bad happened before those in authority do the right thing.
ReplyDeleteNice one. The authorities should step in at this time. Legal actions should be taken now. She committed a crime. She is responsible for the lives lost. Because she didn't provide them with proper safety. What kind of negligence is this???
ReplyDeleteAnd the boat driver should be arrested for the crime of overspeeding which resulted in the accident. Let them all pay the price of carelessness. It was such an avoidable death. Sad 😔
Oh the boat driver didn't die?
DeletePlease quote the crime she committed as per adults voluntarily traveling without life vests and then fence all riverine communities in Nigeria and convert them to prison for committing the same offence.
DeleteAll these emotional assesments of situations without calm objective approach to a situation is unhelpful and will not save lives in the future.
The way forward is the issue.
She owns the movie set and should have made sure all safety protocols are met. Inability to do that is a crime. There are too many people on movie set for her to be careless.
DeleteAnon, you're the sentimental one here. We see other movies produced in other countries. Just to move a car by an inch, they take safety precautions. You think those actors will care about that when they can barely remember their lines? It is enforced by the crews and the producer. Goes to show how much they respect laws. But here people will want to evade law and punishment. As if he will be on river if he wasn't called by the producer.
Apparently, whomever this producer is, she owns both river and boat . We had better line up all producers, location managers, continuity and other crew for this in ALL MOVIES SWT IN RIVERINE AREAS. She ordered adults to board with both producers and actors being fully aware that the transport vehicle did not have live boats. That's being fully aware of the risks and voluntarily taking them.
DeleteIf this was a case of actors returning from location and traveling by boat, would there be so much drama? Who would you sue if this was a family returning from Salah or Easter celebrations at home?
What Nigerian law was broken by the owner of the boat, the deceased passengers, the driver or the river? What AGN guidelines did the members break for this mishap to happen? What law was broken by those who lost their lives? If a taxi has an accident, is it the boss who sent you on an errand that is charged or the owner and operator of the vehicle? Are you going to be fined for not using a belt or the boss who sent you? Without the belt less and Lightless and rugged buses Nigerians use for public transport in all states, can most even afford to move around?
By your warped explanation of what you think happens in other countries, is it not clear that the issue is an absence of laws and guidelines based on national resistance to issues of safety? If the government mandates safety gear and procedures, won't you be the first to complain about the necessary cost and inconvenience? is the budget of filmmaking the same? Are the laws the same? What laws applies to these unlucky travellers that don't apply to all those who live there and ply these rivers everyday?
Go and volunteer yourself to the authorities for taking public transport without seat belts and riding okada without helmets. Admit to crossing outside of the zebra lines. Be the change you want to see in the world. Tell on your relatives who do same. Raise the funds and provide life jackets to those plying rivers everyday for work. Insist on the Ijaws and Itshekiri people to be arrested when they are dancing on their floating displays and boats during their festivals because they don't have life vests on.
Nobody learnt from RUST
DeleteAnon 17:01, your ignorance mis so loud and deep, I don't even know where to start to educate you from. You have thrown so many unrelated events together and expect the same treatment for everyone.
Delete20:23, volunteer yourself at the nearest police station for transporting children in Nigeria without a car seat. Remember to rat your relatives and friends as well. Make Nigeria great.
DeleteAnon 20:23, I just tire 😴
DeleteThis death is just so painful
ReplyDeleteA real case of medicine after death, this was an avoidable death
ReplyDeleteEven though it won't bring back the dead,it's a step in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteWe have to wait in this country till such things happen before actions will be taken. Will any of these bring him back to life . May his soul continue to Rest In Peace.
ReplyDeleteThat is why we should DO the right thing at all times. Let's say for instance I am going on a boat trip or cruise and I don't know how to swim common sense should tell me to wear life jacket no matter what anyone says. You see why it is good to protect and love yourself first before anything. When you are protective of yourself you will take steps to protect your life. It is so unfortunate what happened to them. But first I will blame the individuals involved because they are adults before I blame producers then the actors guild. Always be careful and protect yourself in whatever profession you find yourself! We should stop losing lives to negligence, mistakes, and overlooking safety measures.
ReplyDeleteI love this comment 👍👍
DeleteThank you for stating the obvious

DeleteBoats for paid public transport should have safety equipment. Boats for pleasure can do whatever they want. It is not even about being able to swim. Water current can still drown a good swimmer if they do not have a safety vest. Humans do not live in water that is why transportation over water requires safety equipment.
DeleteIf someone comes to my home and they drink themselves over the legal limit and go drive and kill somebody, I actually can be held liable as the person who gave them access to excess alcohol, which could lead to both jail time and a a civil suit.
Even with life jacket sef I won't venture that nonsense.
ReplyDeleteMy life is worth a while lot.
HOJ unless they drug me that is the only way I can enter boat oo.. with my korokoro eyes open I will not enter it..
DeleteMy heart in stitches. This death couldn't have happened. All in an effort to provide for the family, they couldn't insist on the producer for a life jacket. He was alive this time yesterday. Very sad.
ReplyDeleteThe boat driver should be picked up ASAP, Delta/anambra state government should halt the activities on the water ways n ensure anyone embarking on a journey through the waterways must have life jacket... There must be sanctions....
ReplyDeleteDon't they observe what is called work permit to confirm that all safely precautions are in place before a job is approved or no one check it 🤔 till something happens before we wake up in this country, their death was avoided but nope qe prefer 5o follow short cut. Those involved didn't reject this kind of job and tell the producer to do the needful but they accepted cos they felt nothing will happen. Accident will never tell you when it will happen neither will death tell you when it will come.
ReplyDeleteShortcut is now the "normal" way for them
DeleteTo other actors, you need to be alive to act.
ReplyDeleteTake your own life seriously.
Don't go on set till safety procedures are in place. Scenes with stunts, dangerous animals or elements eg water, fire, etc are not a joke. Be insured and be cautious.
It's not about banning people but having and upholding guidelines as an association for these types of things. This is not the first time movies were acted in riverine areas and we know that life jackets and simply not provided by the boats or ship owners and staff who choose to recklessly risk their adult lives but even other producers as well. Are you going to buy life jackets for 5 scenes in a movie where there is no place to rent or are you going to provide transportation for your staff that everyone in that community has as their only option? How many of those from these communities use life jackets when visiting home? How many have they bought for their own blood relatives?
Many governments have tried to enforce things like helmets for motorcycle riders and lifejackets for those on boats. Even seat belt wearing is met with strong resistance. The same people who are being helped will say the government is choking small business. When things like this happen, they will say again that it is Nigeria happening to them as if these mishaps don't occur across the globe.
How many fire extinguishers are on the sets of movies and is there any training on use or safety/ evacuation plan? When people climb trees, run in traffic, break bottles and hold real guns in movies so as to impress those watching at 144p with borrowed data, are there any safety measures in place and are fans willing to pay the extra cost of safety? The Lagos state government has tried to address these issues in markets and other areas but the same Nigerians who are being helped and claim to want improvement are the ones who lie again about these moves being anti poor, anti tribe, anti anything they elect as a temporary excuse to be unruly.
In a hurried statement, the ACN couldn't even get the first names of FOUR (4) other colleagues but let's pile on an employer for this mishap as if it was premeditated or not the current norm.
AGN failed to supervise
DeleteAGN is not a government task force and they do not supervise movie productions or have any laid down guidelines that members (actors), producers, directors or crew should follow. This is another knee jerk reaction that will distract people till they go begging for alms from another person they consider a deep pocket.
DeleteWetin actors guild dey do sef apart from chopping money. Useless bumkums
ReplyDeleteNo life jacket, no divers, this is a careless death,
ReplyDeleteI will also blame the actors and other crew members that accepted to enter the river without safety materials, they would have insisted that those things be provided before shooting that particular scene,
May their souls rest in peace, amen.
Don't even know what to type my heart is so heavy right now😢😢
ReplyDeleteIt seems the new word of the month in Nigeria is"prosecuted".
ReplyDeleteAre you ready for prosecution for sending your maids on errands with motorcycles or rickshaws without a helmet on? Maybe you should even be tried under the law against taking one's own life in Nigeria for doing so yourselves. Should your children be taken from you for assisting you start your kerosene stove or assisting with buying it in the neighborhood? Are you prepared to be fined for living in a house without a fire extinguisher? Because prosecute go plenty o!!
This is how the sorry hypocritical clamour for "justice for Mohbad" has degenerated into the persecution of a young widow and a toddler by truly evil people who were not there for the late crooner in his difficult moments.
I was so happy to read that he had been revived. Now, this. 😔😔😔
ReplyDeleteNigeria case be like OYO
ReplyDeleteKai!😭😭😭💔💔💔. This life is nothing walahi!!
ReplyDeleteHmm! They should have provide the necessary materials down before going to shoot the movie.
