Convicted Inmate Caught Processing Passport And Visa In Lagos

WHAT!..... wait, prisoners are brought out to go clean private homes?

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) is investigating how Haruna Ayo, a convicted armed robber serving time at Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre, ended up at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) passport office in FESTAC Town, Lagos, allegedly to process travel documents.

The incident occurred on May 19, 2025, under suspicious circumstances. Ayo, whose life sentence had been reduced to 21 years, was reportedly among inmates assigned to do chores at a senior officer’s residence. During this outing, he was handed over to another officer who took him to the passport office. Immigration officials became suspicious when the escorting warder abruptly said he needed to return Ayo to prison. Both were detained on the spot.

Further digging revealed Ayo had been using medical appointments as a cover to process his passport and visa—possibly with help from compromised hospital staff and prison officials. At least two correctional officers have been suspended, but insiders suggest the rot runs deeper.

  4. I think some of the correctional officers stay in the prison quarters within the prison premises.

  5. It's true, it was when the prison officer could not wait to get to the prisoner' s turn that he mistakenly said they were expecting him back in the prison. I also read that in two yrs time, he would complete his jail term.

  6. When other countries see this kind of thing, they put more restrictions on Nigeria 🤦🏾‍♀️

In advanced countries, his name would be flagged as a convict during processing.

    There was indeed a country.

    1. But the fact that he is an ex conviction does not mean he can't travel. That's discrimination

    3. The people in those countries have watched Shawshank redemption. They also realise the scheme has been revealed by dedicated and straightforward officers in the Nigerian prisons service.

Just relax. The next thing is to make publications to let fellow countries know and try him again for these new infractions.

But why are they suspending the corrupt officials? They should join the inmates in jail!

  12. I'm not surprised, Nigerians are fundamentally rotten to the core, what's happening at the top is a reflection of who the average citizen is.
Once you have money in Nigeria, you have power.
