Healthcare services across Nigeria face major disruption from today (Wednesday) as 25,000 nurses, under the umbrella of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Federal Health Institutions Sector, embark on a seven-day nationwide warning strike. The action, which began at midnight, followed the expiration of a 15-day ultimatum issued by NANNM to the federal government.


The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has announced the withdrawal of his bill on indigeneship following public outcry and backlash that trailed the proposed legislation. Kalu said he was withdrawing the bill before the parliament for further legislative engagements.

 Bandits on Tuesday afternoon ambushed soldiers and vigilantes around Dogon Ruwa community of Bashar district of Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing at least two soldiers and two other vigilantes. Residents of the community said the bandits also took away rifles of the soldiers.

 The Bayo Ojulari-led Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has 21 days to explain what happened to ₦210 trillion cash that has not been accounted for. Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the NNPCL, got the three-week ultimatum yesterday when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Public Accounts.

 Education Minister Tunji Alausa has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is determined to ensure that there are no industrial actions in the education sector. Alausa, who spoke on Tuesday as a guest on a national television programme, said the President had directed his team to ensure that the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other unions in tertiary institutions across the country do not embark on a strike.

 Two of the eight properties forfeited by drug traffickers have been auctioned for ₦139 million, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said on Tuesday. The seized houses in Lagos, Ogun, Ondo and Kano states were either acquired with proceeds of drug trafficking or used as instrumentality of committing the crime.

 A tragedy struck in Jigawa State when a canoe capsized, claiming six lives, with two children still missing, leaving authorities to investigate and grieving families to mourn. The Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Command, SP Shi’isu Adam, who confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday, said the incident occurred on Sunday.

 The Peoples Democratic Party has criticised the African Democratic Congress over what it described as an unprovoked attack, maintaining that the PDP remains the only political party capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election. The Katsina State Police Command has rescued 28 kidnapped victims and foiled two separate attacks by armed bandits in Sabuwa Local Government Area of the state.
The development was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu.
According to the statement, the operations were part of the command’s ongoing efforts to combat banditry and kidnapping under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu.

A terrible mishap at Zangon Maje, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has plunged residents into mourning as a boat ferrying 17 passengers, mostly young girls, capsized mid-river.
This is contained in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, ACSC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, on Tuesday.
He said the incident occurred on Sunday.
