Textbooks are also now to be used by pupils and their siblings for four consecutive years.
This is great news for me cos i was complaining the other day....I wish this will spread to all state , especially Lagos!
Commissioner for Education, Prof. Bernard Ikegwuoha, announced the policy in a memo dated August 15, 2025, addressed to parents, guardians, and school proprietors.
The directive, effective immediately, allows graduation ceremonies only for Primary 6 and Senior Secondary School 3 (SSS3) students, in line with Nigeria’s 6-3-3-4 education system.
“The Ministry is committed to providing quality and functional education to all students in the state.
“Graduation ceremonies and parties for Kindergarten, Nursery, and JSS3 students are hereby abolished. This policy ensures focus on academic achievements at the completion of primary and secondary education cycles.” Ikegwuoha also addresse
This is good
ReplyDeleteFantastic development...Well done IMO Govt
DeleteThis is a welcome development.I wish other states will adopt this stance, we paid over 50k for PG graduation last session,it wasn't funny at all.
ReplyDeleteI support that text book one.
ReplyDeleteThey should all go back to Macmillan and maintain it. Every year parents are changing book. During our time, we used books our neighbours used, we used the 'not for sale' books from the government and the people after us used it too.
Let that madness stop!
Nice one ππ
ReplyDeleteStella Maris baby
Nice one π
ReplyDeleteVery good idea.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful newsππ», please bring it lagos also.
ReplyDeleteKudos to Imo State government. The madness has got to stop. I'm sure other states will follow suit. Even if they don't parents are tired already and ready to boycott the excesses of these schools, it's evident in the outcry this year over the graduation party fees, especially. Just draining parents unnecessarily and making you look like an irresponsible parent if you tell the children no to some of these things.
ReplyDeleteIn our own days, textbooks are passed down to younger siblings, even to extended families. But now they've done it in such a way that only one child can use a textbook.

ReplyDeletethe competition between schools and parents is turning into something else, so happy with this new development. They should extend it to abuja because their own is becoming too much, a woman was bitter the other day that she paid 90k for her three children because of graduation money and they did not give them any gift just rice with small piece of meat. She was very hurt, she calculated the amount of food stuffs she would have bought with that money.
ReplyDeleteNice one from d governor..I hope other states will do same.
ReplyDeleteImagine paying 12k for each child ( non graduate) and all they could give my kids was just two umbrellas and rice with small meat.. I wouldn't have paid but they included it in their sch fees so most parents didn't know.
I love this.
ReplyDeleteI have the same textbooks 3 each for each of my kids.
The price of textbooks is not encouraging.
For this term, we are to pay 70k+60k+80k+ 50k= 260k for just textbooks.
Graduation should not be compulsory. Last graduation, my daughter paid 10k and did not even participate because she was crying all through that she wants to sit with me in the audience.
This is outrageous
DeleteI support this, enough of wasting money unnecessarily.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very good development
ReplyDeleteThis is a very good development and the government should please adopt this into FCT school system too cos tell me how will my niece moving to senior class will be paying exorbitant price for graduation party and all of the graduands were also asked to bring cake each nursery class inclusive, as how nau?. Imagine parents that doesn't have the capacity for all that, how do you want to feel in this Tinubu era? Something must be done asap, abeg
DeleteThat textbooks own ehn, the schools are just bring greedy and wicked at the same time. During our time, my siblings and I used the same textbooks throughout, so what changed?
Please Lagos State should follow!
ReplyDeleteWay to go . π
ReplyDeleteThis is commendable πͺπ€
ReplyDeleteI love this!
ReplyDeleteVery good
