UK Rejects Nigeria’s Request To Transfer EX DSP Ekweremadu To Complete His Jail Term At Home

Chai!!!!!

The UK has officially rejected Nigeria’s request to transfer former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu to serve the remaining of his prison sentence in Nigeria. British authorities insist he must complete his nine-year, eight-month term in the UK.

Ekweremadu was convicted in March 2023 for trafficking a young man to London in order to harvest his kidney for his daughter, Sonia.
He was found guilty (This was the first conviction for organ trafficking under the UK’s Modern Slavery Act.) and sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison.

In November 2025, President Tinubu sent a high level delegation (which included Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar and Attorney General Lateef Fagbem) to London to negotiate Ekweremadu’s transfer to Nigeria but the UK Ministry of Justice rejected the request, because they are not sure that Nigeria would enforce the sentence if Ekweremadu was returned home.

    1. Useless govt - everything is politics. They want to use his release to gain popularity in the SE concerning the 2027 elections. God shall continue to punish all of them

    3. 09:14, Ekweremadu is not popular in the East and the current president won convincingly without Eastern votes, just like his predecessor. He will win a bigger margin in ALL Eastern states this time around even if he did nothing like Buhari. The cooperation of governors as per his projects and politics will ensure that unlike the compulsion from the previous cabal of the past tenant. Study the numbers in the Anambra elections: YPP, APC will work for the same person. Anambra APGA is on board. Imo and Ebony are hoping to bottom the presidential ticket, SP or SGF. Abia will want to keep Kalu there. Enugu has ported.

Ekweremadu's transfer home would have served as a cover for a deal with a man more popular in the East amongst losers, the unemployable, professional victims and poor planners who was recently sentenced to life imprisonment and for whom fake outrage has been unleashed by those scared of being kidnapped, keeeed or losing local elections. His conduct in court has made it even more difficult and he has overplayed his hand into a conviction at a time when the international community wants the state to be tougher on terrorists. Someone who videos himself distributing unregistered guns to hungry looking illiterates. It must be a relief to the government that the Ekweremadu deal fell through after Kanu's conviction and with their good rapport with 10 Downing, it was no surprise.

Those celebrating Ekweremadu's continued stay are not good at reading in between the lines.

This may however be good news for the next lucky set of convicts hoping for clemency or pardon.
