FIRS Confirms NIN As Tax Identification Number

The Federal Inland Revenue Service has officially announced that the National Identification Number (NIN) will now automatically serve as Tax Identification Number (TIN) under Nigeria’s new tax regime.

Individuals do not need to apply for a separate TIN as their NIN is now their Tax ID.
Registered companies will use their CAC registration number as their Tax ID.
This policy kicks in under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act (NTAA) starting January 2026.
Tax ID will now be required for certain activities, including opening bank accounts and other financial operations.

  4. When it's time to collect our money, they know how to streamline the process and make it faster. They could have simply used our NIN as our BVN, but no! They had to suffer Nigerians and make us stand in queues to get BVN.
