Nigeria Sends Diplomatic Delegation To Apologize To Burkina Faso For Airspace Violation

Nigeria has officially sent a high-level diplomatic delegation to Burkina Faso to apologize for the violation of its airspace after a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft made an emergency landing in Bobo-Dioulasso on December 8, 2025.

The Nigerian Air Force C-130 transport plane carrying 11 military personnel (two crew, nine passengers) made an unscheduled emergency landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso’s second-largest city.

Nigeria explained the landing was due to technical concerns during a ferry mission to Portugal, citing international aviation safety protocols.
Burkina Faso’s military authorities, however, viewed the incident as an unauthorized entry into sovereign airspace, and detained the personnel and the aircraft.

On December 17, 2025, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar led a delegation to Ouagadougou.
Tuggar delivered a formal apology and message of “solidarity and fraternity” from President Bola Tinubu to Burkina Faso’s leader, Captain Ibrahim TraorĂ©.

The talks emphasized de-escalation, respect for sovereignty, and adherence to aviation/military protocols.

Following the diplomatic intervention, Burkina Faso released the 11 detained Nigerian Air Force personnel nine days after the incident.

  2. Sorry for the detainees used for an example. But well done Burkina, protect your own at all cost. Before spies are sent to you in the name of technical fault. This will serve as a lesson if any country is in collaboration with your enemies not to dare.

    1. Ignoramuses always wishing bad for their country.
An aircraft carrying Nigerian military men developed a problem midair and made an emergency landing.
if it was a covert operation, will it be done with such a large aircraft. Una dey think at all before una talk?
So, in your mind, France that was in Burkina Faso for decades will need Nigerian aircraft to fly into Burkina when they can easily use spies if they want to.
      Makle una dey think na
