
The Pharaohs broke the deadlock in the 69th minute when Marwan Attia unleashed a superb long range strike into the top corner of the net making it 1-0. Benin fought back and equalized in the 83rd minute through Jodel Dossou making it 1-1, who tapped in from close range after a save from Egypt's goalkeeper.
With the game having no winners at 90 minutes, they proceeded to play additional 30 minutes of extra time to find a winner. In extra time, Yasser Ibrahim restored Egypt's lead with a looping header in the 97th minute making it 2-1.
Captain Mohamed Salah sealed the win in the 124th minute making it 3-1 with a composed finish on a counter-attack, his third goal of the tournament.
Egypt the seven time AFCON champions have now advanced to the quarter finals.
