Police Reportedly Arrest Landlord For Removing Tenant’s Roof..

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a Ghanaian national, Mr Samuel Frimpong, for allegedly removing the roof of his tenant’s apartment after the tenant, Mr Anozie Tochukwu, failed to vacate following an expired lease....

Police say the incident which occurred on February 3, 2026 was reported to the Ozuoba Police Division when Tochukwu’s wife called to report that the landlord had de‑roofed the unit, exposing the family—including a pregnant wife and two young children—to heavy rain and damaging property...

Tochukwu told journalists he moved in January 2024, paid rent regularly, and had requested a 14‑day extension to relocate after showing proof of payment for a new apartment, but that his possessions—valued at about ₦25 million and including a 43‑inch TV, deep freezer, chandelier, furniture, certificates (NYSC, degree, professional), books, clothes, baby and pregnancy medications, children’s and wife’s shoes, a 4×6 foam and bed frame, and nearly nine months’ savings were ruined or went missing when the roof was removed and it rained---

Detectives from Ozuoba arrested Frimpong the same day after the formal complaint, and Rivers State Police Command spokesperson Grace Iringe‑Koko confirmed he is in custody as investigations continue.

  9. What was wrong with granting the two weeks extension. Legally there was no rental agreement because of the expiration of the lease but removing the roof was excessive. Two weeks is not long. He could have insisted they start moving their things to storage or somewhere, so there is no hold up in the two weeks.

Don’t they have storage business in Nigeria? May be a business opportunity there for someone enterprising.

Come to think of it, why didn't the tenant move since he has already paid for a new apartment

  11. My first renewal was in Dec only for me to get a letter from my landlord this morning stating increment/quit notice for the next renewal. I guess he wants to be on the safe side hence a 1yr quit notice cos how can one increase from 450k - 800k? .It's well God go provide and I'll move to a better apartment.

Meanwhile this is an old house oo.Issokay!!
