Federal Government Of Nigeria Disburses ₦2.25bn To 45 Student Innovators Nationwide

The Federal Government of Nigeria has awarded ₦50 million each to 45 students from public and private universities under the Student Venture Capital Grant (S‑VCG) programme.

The winners were selected from 65 finalists, drawn from over 30,000 applications across more than 400 tertiary institutions.
The grant is equity‑free, allowing students to retain full ownership of their innovations, and comes with mentorship, business training, incubation support, and startup tools.
Most of the selected projects are in STEMM fields.
The awards were announced at the UNDP Innovation Hub in Ikoyi, Lagos, where Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa said the initiative aims to make universities hubs for job creation and entrepreneurship, not just certificate‑issuing institutions.

The University of Lagos led with eight winners, and the government disbursed a total of ₦2.25 billion.
