Oyo State Gov Makinde Tops Up State Workers Salaries With ₦10,000 To Ease Economic Hardship
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a ₦10,000 monthly salary top‑up for all state and local government workers for the next three months, starting in April, as a direct cushion against rising transport and living costs.
The governor said the intervention is meant to ease the pressure on workers during the current economic hardship, and added that the state will review the situation after the three‑month window to determine whether an extension is necessary. In his words, “We know things are tough. This support is to ease the pressure on our workers as we navigate these challenging times.”
Just 10k, and you say you "will review the situation after the three month window to determine whether an extension is necessary". Are you being serious??? 🤦♀️
Shameless leaders. One of the senators in my place have hundreds of bags of expired rice in his warehouse, these are rice given to him for free and he refused to give them out till it expired in his house and his compound filled with weevils. Wicked leaders. God will judge all of them
There are 36 states and only one Governor considers transportation for his workers without the presidential intervention, so 10k is small, a Governor that is still at opposition party . 10k is just, ads it up for all the workers.
10k? As in ten tausand? Well, better than some states that still pay 30k as minimum wage. Oyo state pays the 70k minimum wagel, I suppose.. I wonder how government workers cope. This 70k is not up to what we spend in a week in my home and we are not comfortable, just managing still. It is well.
It’s conditioning. Most Africans accept substandard subpar and never demand better. The monarchy culture has made it so folks are in a mindset of being at ease with nothing beneath a person that they view as in authority and should have more naturally. Don’t believe me, look at the state of many schools, hospitals, government buildings that ppl are expected to go to use. The condition of some of those spaces would not even make it as an outhouse in other countries. The same ppl in governance are happy to laud the development of other nations on their travels and gladly buy properties and relocate to those places, while gaslighting Nigerians that the conditions they are living under are acceptable, and the majority of the population accept their plight instead of demanding better in every way. They give titles and awards to each other for achieving nothing and commission the most foolish projects. All to give the illusion that they are doing meaningful work. They have no one to be accountable to and nothing to be accountable for, that’s how so much theft can happen over and over again.
How many have ran from Dubai since the war? How many are back in Nigeria only because of fear of death. For decades they strategically kept the cost of goods and services low to give the illusion that the low pay was actually a liveable wage. Now that a global recession has made it such that they cannot manipulate the markets any longer they grudgingly increased salaries, but it is still low and cannot provide any comfort. The 70k is just $50 in countries with strong dollars, even less than that in some. These ppl are earning less than $2 a day and expected to provide service with a smile.
Seyi pays 70k minimum wage,he pays on time, he pays pension, some states are still paying below 70k. 10k is not much but at all at all na winch, I mean it's not a federal decision.
@ 14.35....grudgingly increased salaries, but it is still low and cannot provide any comfort. This salary increments was due to the protests by NLC,now instead of them to fight for Nigerian to go back to before when eg knorr was 350 and fuel 97naira, they thought with their mind not their brain, so they want 70k minimum, they got it, everything increased further depreciating the naira value even more than it was, so yes they got 70k but it's even more worthless than 30k of the old days
Everyone is saying it's too small, just 10k, okay ...fuel shoots from 950 to 1350, in a state with millions of workers A gov gives them 10k extra, not federal just A governor. So it's small ? what about the other 35 governors? What if he didn't give them the 10k each?

It may be better for some people to Release the 50 billion to the people who suffered the attack instead of stockpiling it for politics.
