Amnesty International has criticised Nigerian authorities over the killing of at least 17 people in Mbalom, accusing the government of failing to protect residents from repeated violence. In a statement released on Monday, the organisation said armed attackers stormed the village on Sunday during Easter festivities, killing several residents, injuring many others, and setting homes and shops ablaze.


 The Presidency has warned the former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi, against unfairly targeting President Bola Tinubu over the ongoing crisis in the African Democratic Congress, ADC. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser of the president on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

 The federal government has dismissed reports suggesting the cancellation of Nigeria’s Visa-on-Arrival (VOA) policy, clarifying that the system has instead been upgraded to enhance efficiency. Addressing journalists on Monday at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, the ADC National Youth Leader, Balarabe Rufa’i, accused INEC of undermining democracy and acting outside its constitutional powers.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, has described the renewed violence and killings in Plateau State as politically motivated. In a video on his Facebook page, Melaye alleged that Tinubu’s political ambition to become Cameroon’s President, Paul Biya, in Nigeria will not work.

 The Nigeria Police said seven kidnapped victims from the attack in Ariko Village near Gurara Dam on Easter Sunday have been rescued. A statement signed by DCP Anthony Okon, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, said that during the operation, the team led by DIG Nadada, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services, DSS, rescued seven kidnapped victims.

 The number of people killed in the early Saturday attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Agena community in Mbalom, Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, has increased to 11 after two additional bodies were found in the area. Providing an update on Monday, a community mobiliser and leader, Christopher Gbasha, who joined the search efforts, stated that “two more corpses have been discovered in the village to add to the number deposited in the mortuary, so we have 11 deaths now.

 A presidential aspirant under the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Abayomi Rotimi, has given reasons why he chose the party for the 2027 elections despite its current leadership crisis. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Rotimi stated that the party is not absolutely bad, noting that it could be worked with.

The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Usman Ankwai, passed away last night.
Ankwai, who represented Zuru Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC), was elected Speaker at the inauguration of the 10th Assembly on June 8, 2023.
Details surrounding the circumstances of his death were not immediately disclosed
