Prosecutors said the 34‑year‑old posed as a woman online, built fake romantic relationships with men, and then used their trust to obtain money and access to their bank accounts, which he used to move stolen funds back to Nigeria.
Court documents described him as a leader in a sophisticated fraud network, with one victim losing over $120,000.
FBI agents recovered chats and photos from his phone showing him spending the proceeds on cash and luxury items, including Rolex watches.
A jury convicted him in November 2025, and on March 31, 2026, Chief Judge Richard E. Myers II handed down the sentence, after which Owolabi will be deported to Nigeria.
The U.S. Department of Justice said schemes like this cause real harm to victims and warned that “cheaters never win.”
