Desmond Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency 1, alleged he travelled to South Africa with his wife for his sister in law’s wedding.
The Lagos State House of Assembly was on recess at the time. When he returned, he found out about the impeachment process and felt confused. He noticed that almost all his colleagues had already signed the notice. He thought the action had the support of President Bola Tinubu, so he signed it too.
Later, President Tinubu made it clear that he did not approve the impeachment. He directed the lawmakers to reinstate Obasa as Speaker. They followed the order and reinstated him back.
Desmond Elliot spoke about this during a recent interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily. His comments came after Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Chief of Staff, mentioned him in connection with the crisis. Gbajabiamila said the situation nearly cost him his job. Desmond Elliot has since apologized and denied masterminding the impeachment and described Gbajabiamila as his political leader.

The members of GAC siding them can only be pointed out by the 1st person to sign the form who has interestingly not been mentioned till now. That list never made it to the press despite the noise and court cases. Meranda is not contesting primaries. Obasa has been relegated to HOR. The message from current serving members was clear and they were "forgiven" by Tinubu but those who's leaders need to stay employed or in favor are expected to take the fall. . It's giving 1997 coup within a coup.
Thankfully, surulere is more metropolitan and Desmond has strong local support though the party has withdrawn the structure in favor of Barakat. They won't be withdrawing his security and sacking those in the local government sympathetic of him if they were sure of a landslide. He is fighting to clear his name knowing he will lose. He needs those at the villa to ask themselves why he way down on the list of those signing and why everyone is mentioning his name with not a single collaborator- bc his oga's office is directly next to the president's so he was a perfect shield. Desmond is paying the price for subterfuge he knows nothing of. He doesn't have the political sagacity for such moves as a yes man. Even his theatrical tears and bandwagon thinking is an easy giveaway. The man no sabi. If the REAL players are not fished out and rendered impotent, a worse play will resume.
