Speaking in a recent interview with The Spectator, Badenoch reflected on her childhood in Nigeria and blamed poor public policy for the country’s decades of power failure.
“My belief that we need to drill our oil and gas comes from growing up in a country… Nigeria is an oil producing country that has never had electricity,”
“It is very easy to have resources under the ground, but stupid public policy means that you can’t use them,”
Her remarks come as Nigeria continues to struggle with unstable electricity generation, which has hovered between 3,500 and 5,000 megawatts for a population of over 250 million people.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his Democracy Day speech, promised renewed efforts to fix the power sector and deliver reliable electricity to Nigerians.

Praise the country at all times. Attack anyone drawing attention to the failures of government and possibly guilt trip them into believing that they are the ones at fault or even accuse them of not contributing to the growth of the country.

Nigeria is a case study in many things. A strange land with it many cultures, customs, and beliefs, these ppl all vying for their own power. Full of the resources of wealth, yet having a serious infrastructure problem with a hyper corrupt governance, legal and economic system. A country that should already have global superpower status, relegated to developing nation status, not to mention the unsay title of being the country with the lowest life expectancy on earth. Even Guyana that only just discovered oil and Ethiopia with none are light years ahead of Nigeria in prosperity and quality of life for its citizens. Nigeria with its huge land mass can’t feed itself and still rely on imports for survival. Still lacking unity and a clear direction of where it is going. A land with great minds, quite possibly some of the smartest ppl on the planet but sill getting left behind. The great African paradox.
