Nigeria's Senate Proposes N50,000 Fine For Hawking And Preaching In Commercial Buses
Nigeria's Senate has passed the Federal Road Safety Corps Amendment Bill twenty twenty six, introducing a fifty thousand naira fine for anyone caught hawking, trading or preaching inside commercial buses.
The bill, which is awaiting presidential assent, also sets a fifty thousand naira fine or six months imprisonment for motorists who refuse roadside breath tests conducted by Federal Road Safety Corps officials.
The amended law increases penalties for several traffic offences to improve road safety and reduce crashes. Under the new provision, anyone found hawking, trading or preaching inside a commercial vehicle commits an offence and will pay fifty thousand naira upon conviction.
Of all things happening in the country, this is what you people are discussing?
If you know these "petty things" , how comes you all don't see the extreme sufferings of the masses,and the high rate of employment, the ever increasing house rent etc
With the cost of rent, there's no how criminality, stealing, fraud prostitution etc won't sky rocket. Food and shelter are basic needs, the cost of food is outrageous, and rent is just so unreasonable, all you'll be seeing is millons even just for selfcon. And you think frustration won't push people into crime.

That preaching is the koko...when i worked and lived in Lagos,wetin those bus preachers do person no good. You woke up 4 am,you board a bus by 5:30 am,and all you need is some peace and semblance of sanity because the conductor is doing his own stunts.But no,this preacher boards and shouts and shouts and shout till you just wanna scream.This happens every blessed day going from mainland to island.Please fine them. The ones that hawks and throws their things at you nkor?The one's disguising as hawkers and robbing passengers nkor?Please fine them.
I’ll commend this, even though it’s not the major issue we’re facing as a country.
The disturbance caused by commercial trading inside the bus is not something we should accept. What happened to our pharmaceutical shops where people can easily go to buy drugs? For those of you in the diaspora, is this how pharmaceutical products are hawked on trains and buses?
Next is preaching inside the bus. I’m not against preaching the gospel, but come on! You don’t know the religion of all the passengers, or whether they even want to listen. People’s comfort and peace should be respected in public spaces.
So preaching on commercial buses has now become a crime?Lobatan,End times! For the hawking,asides their safety,a lot of them depend on it for their daily bread. What alternatives will be provided for them,or would they rather have them turn to crime?
So this is what they sit down in the national Assembly to discuss. In the mist of all the serious issues facing this country, this is what they choose to discuss.
The one for preaching is the one I want them to put a stop to. I can understand if we are traveling and you say let us pray for a safe journey, but to come begin preach. Some go even dey abuse women wey dey wear wigs and trousers and makeup.
