Rapper YCee Reveals He Has Been Living With Bipolar Disorder Since 2020

Rapper YCee has revealed that he has been living with bipolar disorder since 2020. He made the disclosure in a recent interview where he spoke openly about how the diagnosis changed his life and exposed the gaps in Nigeria’s mental health system.

He explained that after receiving treatment in London, he was expected to continue therapy in Lagos, but the shortage of trained mental health professionals made the process difficult.

He said, “I was supposed to continue treatment in Lagos, but that was where I saw how much of a challenge it is to deal with that kind of condition. There was a lack of personnel. As at 2024, there was very little staffing within mental health. Psychiatrists, psychologists and people that are supposed to be servicing those fields.”

  2. I know someone that suffered bipolar disorder some years ago, the effects on the family weren't palatable at all, as people around termed it insanity, thankfully she was able to get treatment here in Ogun State as well as Lagos State. Thank God you're better now Ycee.

    1. It’s all neo colonialism. They take the best from one nation to ensure that theirs remains prosperous, then the drained nation cannot develop properly because only a few of knowledge are around to develop it. Anti immigrant sentiments are only for the poor, the educated class is always welcomed. The never ending cycle of one nation progressing and the other remaining stagnant.

Somehow it is only when things get critical that the lesser nation decide to react, and I don’t get why they are never prepared or put policies in place to protect them and provide good incentives and remuneration to their highly skilled workers.

    1. Someone whose emotions and moods can be erratic, unstable and unpredictable. It can be a combination of other mental disorders that are compounded and takes time to treat.
