DSS Releases Carpenter Wrongly Linked To Oyo School Attack And Compensates Him N3 Million
The Department of State Services has released Katsina carpenter Mustapha Marwana after clearing him of any link to the Oyo school attack. He was arrested over the abduction and killing of pupils and teachers in Oriire, but investigators found no evidence connecting him to any terrorist group. DSS Director General Tosin Ajayi ordered his release and gave him N3 million to help him restart his life.
Gunmen suspected to be from the Ansaru group attacked three schools on May 15 2026, taking thirty nine pupils and seven teachers. Two victims were killed. The rest were freed on July 10 2026 after a military operation.
A DSS panel reviewed Marwana’s case and found nothing tying him to the group. He was released to his lawyer, Oghene Forgive, and thanked the DSS for fair treatment.
