NOTORIOUS FOR JESUS
One time, I was doing private lessons for a Black American family of six who had moved from America to Nigeria. The man was divorced and had five children from two different women.
He had two maids, and he was sleeping with both of them. He also used to beat them, although he gave them money frequently. He once told me he wanted to have children with them so he could have a large family.
One day, while I was there teaching, I suddenly heard a loud noise coming from upstairs. One of the maids was crying hysterically and running downstairs, while the man was chasing her and trying to strangle her.
I panicked, but I tried to keep my cool. He eventually went into her room and started throwing her belongings and luggage outside.
He then ordered the gateman to open the gate, and the woman left.
After the class, the man called me and explained what had happened.
Apparently, they had just been intimate, and the woman quickly went to the bathroom. While she was gone, the man checked her phone. That was when he discovered that she had taken nude pictures of him and had also recorded their intimate moments.
I was shocked.
When I got home, I couldn't stop thinking about what had happened, so I decided to contact her because I had her phone number. She was actually the one who attended to me whenever the man wasn't around and I came to teach the children.
At first, she ignored my voice note. But three days later, she responded and told me that she needed the videos as leverage because she had discovered that the man had also been recording their intimate moments without her knowledge.
I sympathized with her and decided not to get involved any further.
Three days later, I went back to the house as usual to continue my job, and to my surprise, I saw the same maid there again.
I asked her how she had managed to convince the man to take her back. She then told me, in confidence, that her father was not an herbalist by mistake.
According to her, she had used juju on the man and had returned for revenge.
Her plan was first to get hold of the intimate videos and delete them. Then, she would torture him and his children.
Ahhh! Two days later, I collected my salary, quietly ran away from that job, the secrets there was just too much for me to bear. Before dem kpai me troway. Please don't ask me if I heard from them again.

I am tired of this ridiculous advice being sold to women in African society.
A man cheats on you, You are told to pray harder.
A man lies to your face, You are told to be patient.
A man disrespects you repeatedly, You are told to endure.
A man is sleeping around recklessly, You are told to be a “good wife.”
ARE YOU PEOPLE NOT TIRED?
Some women have turned themselves into FBI agents, marriage police officers, therapists, counselors, prayer warriors, and full-time referees just to stop a grown man from behaving like a nuisance.
My sister, if a man needs constant supervision to remain faithful, faithfulness was never in him to begin with.
Read that again.
A faithful man does not need monitoring.
A faithful man does not need tracking.
A faithful man does not need CCTV.
A faithful man does not need weekly warnings. Character is character.
My Dear women, stop exhausting yourself trying to manage a grown man’s morality.
You cannot cry him into loyalty.
You cannot pray him into discipline.
You cannot beg him into character.
And you certainly cannot love him into respecting you if he enjoys disrespecting you.
Enough of this nonsense…. Some of you are attending prayer meetings while the man is attending his next distraction.

And somehow in some society, you expected to carry the burden?
Dear women, stop applying for positions you were never hired for. You are not a rehabilitation center. You are not a correctional facility. You are not a behavior modification program.
You are not a marriage REFEREE.
And you are definitely not a babysitter for grown men who refuse to control themselves.
Please wake up.
A relationship is not supposed to feel like a full-time SURVEILLANCE job..

The real gold diggers are the men who expect you to offer them your body, raise their children, clean the house, manage their emotions, split the bills, work a full-time job, and still somehow make their life easier as yours gets harder.
Because nobody talks about that version of extraction.
We've been so focused on the woman who dates for money that we completely ignored the man who consumes an entire woman and calls it a relationship. He's not paying her bills , he's running up a tab she never agreed to. Her time. Her energy. Her mental load. Her career sacrifices. Her body through pregnancy and recovery. Her emotional labor keeping the peace he keeps disturbing. Her nights up with sick children while he sleeps through it and goes to work and gets called a provider for the one thing she's also doing.
And if she ever gets tired , if she ever slows down or needs something back , suddenly she's ungrateful. Suddenly she's not supportive enough. Suddenly he's telling people she changed.
She didn't change. She ran out.
There's a word for someone who takes everything and contributes the bare minimum while their partner slowly disappears under the weight of it all. It's not provider. It's not husband. It's not even partner.
It's a liability dressed up as a relationship.
You are not a resource to be managed. You are a whole person who deserves someone who makes your life easier too.
Not harder. Never harder.

DeleteI had a Jehovah witness whom I visit her salon regularly to make my hair. We became friends and she likes me cos I look so much like her daughter "Karen". She started inviting to their house cos her shop is one of the shops they built in front of their house.
That was how she introduced me to her husband's nephew in the UK. I was in 300 level as at then.
Long story short, she gave me the guy's number and I asked for the name, and she told me one Muslim, I was like ehn?! She said no nw, that he's a liberal Muslim. His family relocated to UK since he was 9yo and he's now in his late 30s.
I asked, is he still a practicing Muslim? She said Yes. And that's cos of his immediate family blah blah blah
I spoke to the guy few times o, and I can tell he's actually a nice guy. And ge speaks exactly like a British that he is. But I can't bring myself to take such risk. What if he comes and say that it's a must I convert? Actually the thought of seeing my husband a Muslim is something that I will never accept. What about my children? What religion? Toor I say no be me. I spoke to him nicely and I hope he understood.

ReplyDeleteThen I started reading the comments about this particular friend, and no na, it’s not as deep as that oh. In fact, I blame myself. I think this one is all my fault.
She’s definitely not the kind of friend you would tell someone to cut off. In her own way, she’s a very, very special friend, and I love her dearly.
Yes, I got really pissed off yesterday because I just felt that something that little shouldn’t be so difficult for someone to do, not once, not twice. But I think, like Jeweluchi and someone else said, maybe it’s just not her strength.
This is the same girl who gave me one of her expensive wigs just because I mentioned that it was one wig I’d always wanted but hadn’t bought. When I insisted I couldn’t take it because I knew she was also struggling, she said, “Is it only you that wants to keep doing things for me? Let me also do something for you.”
So no, she’s not bad. She’s not a bad person. And yes, maybe I came off too strong yesterday and made people judge her wrongly.
Seeing people say I should cut off the friendship actually opened my eyes. Maybe because I was really hurt, I totally overreacted. This is someone who, in her own way and not just in her own way, but in very clear ways has been a very good person and a very good friend to me.
So I think I owe her y’all an apology for my rant yesterday. Yes, I felt I needed more in that moment, but no, she’s not a bad person, and she’s definitely not a bad friend.
Maybe keeping to time just isn’t her strong suit, and I’ll probably depend on other friends for things that require that. But that doesn’t take away from the kind of person and friend she has been to me.
