About six workers were at the site. Four were rescued alive, one had stepped out before the collapse, and one male body was recovered. The injured were taken to Enugu State Teaching Hospital.
Rescue teams from NEMA, SEMA, the fire service, police, ECTDA and the Red Cross worked through the debris with an excavator and continued checking for anyone still trapped.
ECTDA chairman Uche Anya said the building, approved in 2021, had serious structural defects and had been sealed for six months. It was reportedly meant to be a hotel.

The government had no fault here at all.
There are several times where the owner would think engineer wish to waste resources by so doing, reducing necessary things to be used(e.g, materials, pillars, column etc). But this doesn't occur always except from over wise owner.
But, you see those Engineers..Jesus. they are devil. They want to make more money than expected. A storey building needs more reinforcement. If what you started can only take a storey building then go with that and don't allow anyone tell you, to put one more. It's not down at all.

ReplyDeleteFor a country that is not prone to earthquakes there are too many of these events. Are they laying weak foundations or they just don't know how to build a strong building? Maybe fake cement and steel since so much shyt is being faked these days. Are the people guiding the build licensed and passed their exams? Who is doing quality and verifying correct process? This just can't keep happening over and over with lives being lost and ppl losing their money.
