Ex‑NEXIM Bank MD Robert Orya Jailed 490 Years Over ₦2.4 Billion Fraud.
The former Managing Director of the Nigeria Export‑Import Bank (NEXIM), Robert Orya, has been sentenced to 490 years in prison over a ₦2.4 billion fraud case. The Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld his conviction and confirmed the 490‑year jail term earlier handed down by the FCT High Court.
A three‑member panel led by Justice Muhammed Danjuma dismissed Orya’s appeal, ruling that it lacked merit and affirming the judgment delivered by Justice F.E. Messiri on February 5, 2026. Orya was found guilty on 49 counts and sentenced to 10 years for each, to run concurrently. He served as NEXIM Bank Managing Director from 2009 to 2016.
