Former Sierra Leone President Koroma Returns Home After A 2Year Exile In Nigeria

Former Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma has returned to Freetown after two years in exile in Nigeria, following the government’s decision to drop treason charges linked to the November 2023 failed coup attempt.

Koroma left Sierra Leone in January 2024 on a medical leave that later became a long stay in Abuja as the treason case unfolded. The Ministry of Justice withdrew all charges in July 2026, clearing the way for his return.
He arrived in Freetown over the weekend of 6–7 September 2026, accompanied by Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu‑Ojukwu and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, who both played key roles in the negotiations

Koroma said he was happy to be home and called for unity and reconciliation in Sierra Leone.

    1. Why do they like going on exile in Nigeria? Why not other African countries?

  2. Baba Obasanjo the peacemaker. I think one African president came on exile during his time as president too. Our own Bianca looks beautiful as always, keep up the good work ma'am.

  3. See all of them taking pictures when the only civil person that saved that man is GEJ. Taking credit for what they did not work for.

    1. I am assuming you do not understand the issues so let's try to explain it.
Nigeria's sitting president in January 2024 was Bola Ahmed Tinubu so whatever GEJ did was as an envoy of the sitting president, he didn't do it as himself as you won't expect a sitting president to be involved in such negotiations directly.
Nigeria also took care of his accommodation, feeding, transportation, security etc since he has been here, that was also approved by the sitting president.
The Minister of Foreign affairs is involved as an agent of the president.
OBJ is also there as an elder statesman in African affairs
