Ibewuike, who relocated to Mozambique and ran a hotel as a front, was one of three suspects declared wanted after NDLEA operatives intercepted 49.70 kg of heroin concealed in cartons of metal‑cutting machines in February 2024. The operation led to multiple arrests, including his wife Confidence Ndidiamaka Ibewuike, and the freezing of 107 bank accounts and forfeiture of properties linked to the cartel.
After two years of evasion between Mozambique, Benin Republic, and Nigeria, NDLEA, working with INTERPOL, arrested Ibewuike at Cotonou Airport on September 2, 2026, and repatriated him to Nigeria on September 4, 2026.
He later identified the heroin parcels marked “ND” as his own.
Further investigation revealed that Ibewuike had previously been linked to another drug case involving 40.255 kg of methamphetamine before the Federal High Court, Lagos, presided over by Justice Hadiza Rabiu Shagari.
The NDLEA described his arrest as a major breakthrough in dismantling transnational drug networks and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no fugitive escapes justice.
