Actor Uzor Arukwe Issues Personal Note After Backlash Following His Marriage Comment

Actor Uzor Arukwe has clarified his widely discussed comments on marriage, women’s aspirations, and family responsibilities from a recent interview after serious backlash.

In a detailed personal statement, he explained that his remarks were not an attack on marriage or women, but a reflection on how society often pressures women to define their worth through becoming a wife.

He emphasized that he believes women should pursue purpose, ambition, identity, and personal growth, not because it makes them “marriage material,” but because they are individuals with dreams of their own. He acknowledged that his earlier wording may have created ambiguity and took responsibility for the misunderstanding.

He also addressed reactions from men, noting that he fully recognizes the sacrifices husbands and fathers make and would never undermine their role and highlighted his upbringing, praising both his mother’s resilience and his father’s dedication, and reinforced his respect for the institution of marriage.

He stressed that marriage should not be a competition of sacrifices but a partnership built on mutual respect, shared responsibilities, and individuality
He explained why he keeps his family private and expressed his desire for his daughters to grow up knowing that marriage is beautiful but not the sole definition of a fulfilled life.
He thanked his fans for their feedback, reaffirmed his belief that both men and women deserve the freedom to define their own aspirations and concluded by stating that marriage is meaningful, but it should never overshadow a person’s identity or purpose.
