Businessman Simon Guobadia Reacts After US Indicts Him Over Alleged False Tax Returns
Nigerian Businessman, Simon Guobadia who was formerly married to Reality TV Star Porsha Williams has has reacted after he was indicted on two counts of assisting in the preparation and filing of false federal tax returns in the US.
Federal prosecutors claim Simon deliberately underreported his income and his company's gross sales in 2021. The indictment alleges that he knew the figures were false at the time he filed. Each count carries a maximum sentence of 3 years in prison plus fines if convicted. Simon reacted on his Instagram story ''As a former tax accountant and CPA, I understand the consequences of filing a false tax return. I am also completely confident that the U.S. Department of Justice got this one wrong. Oil companies do not overstate their cost of goods sold or the federal taxes they collect and pay over to the government. My deductions for those payments can be independently verified. Anyone who knows the oil industry will tell you our margins are thin. These widely publicized indictments create an impression, hopefully not on purpose, that is grossly exaggerated.”
