Chronicle Of Blog Visitor Narrative

Hmmmmmm......

STAND ALONE NARRATIVE
MUM THAT DOES NOT UNDERSTAND

I am working so hard with a private organisation and saving every naira so I can start my own business.
Every day, I tell my mother how much I want to build something for myself but she is focused on completing her house, and in my mind I keep wondering if she doesn’t realise that if she helps me become financially stable, I will also be able to support her with the building project? After all, I am her only child and what is hers is mine, and what is mine is hers...
I feel hurt because it seems like she is prioritising herself, and I don’t want her to think her building project is insignificant.
I just want her to understand that helping me now will benefit both of us in the long run.
How do i make her understand????

Na wah oh.....Why did she start a project without planning on how to finish it? This her entitlement mentality has come to stay and you enabled it...I dont think at this stage you have a choice oh...She will never understand.. Please quickly help her complete it and sound a warning that you cant do anymore for her...

  1. Great Feat with the saving and your ambition. I feel one mistake hardworking individuals do is tell people about your finance. It doesn't matter even if it family members. Your ambition does align to them. A house a great project for long term goal. You could build an apartment and rent it could bring stable and additional income. Business should ultimate goal but also unpredictable. God see you through in your decisions.

Get a close family relative she listens to and explain in details, then beg to convince your mom

Meanwhile, you know business takes awhile to be established and start bringing returns right? Could run into years you know.
Also, you can't guarantee it will flourish at first attempt.

While you are optimistic, what if it fails? (God forbid but just asking you to think outside the box)

What would your mum say and would there be a spare money for her house?

Off course, you don't owe her to build her one. (However ,would be an absolute pleasure to be able to do this for our parents) So she needs to understand that too

  6. I honestly think you are the one who needs to understand that your mom's feelings are also valid and parents can also have goals in spite of their children.

Your mother’s money is the fruit of her lifelong labor and she has every right to prioritize whatever goals she has worked her entire life to achieve. You may think your mom is selfish, but you expecting her to halt her dreams to fund yours is also a subtle form of entitlement, isn't it? Considering she has been doing that for you all her life and you are an adult now. After decades of paying your school fees, buying textbooks, and making countless sacrifices so you could get educated and employed, your mother feels she can finally catch her breath and chase one of her dreams, which is having a roof over her head.
Your mother is looking at you, seeing a capable young woman earning a salary, and thinking to herself, "Thank God, my baby can now feed herself, so now I can finally take care of me." But she doesn't know her baby thinks it is a lack of understanding.

Ironically, your mom is even doing something that will benefit you in the long run because it's an asset and an inheritance, and many years from now, who gets the house? You! Your mom is also building generational wealth, but in a different form than what you desire or are thinking of right now.

Besides, no matter how hard you work, 90% of start-ups are high-risk, which is why your mother is likely operating out of wisdom and self-preservation. If she gives you her house money and the business fails, you both are left with nothing. If she finishes the house, you will always have a roof over your heads, irrespective of what happens to the economy or the business.

You have time on your side to save, fail, try again, and eventually build, but your mother’s timeline is shorter. Her window to complete a massive physical project like building a house and securing her retirement is closing. I think it's unfair to ask a parent in their later stages of life to delay their ultimate security for their children's start-up phase.

You are asking how to make your mom understand meanwhile, the hard truth is, you shouldn't try to make your mother understand, because you are the one who needs to work on your mindset by celebrating your mom's milestones and accepting that your business will be funded by your own hard-earned savings with financial helpfrom your mom time to time while working on her project that is if she can spare.

  7. @ Stella its poster that is entitled. The mother is not asking her for her money o. The old woman is building her house by herself but poster thinks she should give her the money for her start up. This poster you are not alright. You sound spoilt like you are used to getting anything you want especially from your mother. Its children like you that kill their parents. Remove your eyes from your mother's money. Build your start up according to your income. If not, find multiple sources to earn more money. You are an adult. I am sure the woman trained you through school. Go figure yourself out. She's hardly still responsible for you. Allow her enjoy her life and achieve her other goals.

Oh you are right ooo. I just went back to read it again.

Poster you are so wrong and entitled.

Hasn't she tried for you enough?for crying out loud, she has probably sacrificed everything for you, that's why you are still the only child and she is still without a husband.

So, after every every, including seeing you through school, you still want her to halt her life's dreams of building herself a house and pour her resources into a business you ain't sure will even flourish at first attempt or stand in the next 5 years?

You are so selfish and self centred.

Give the woman a break already and help her finish her house.
      Nah wah

  8. Do you ppl have a place to stay? Make una dey give details bcos shelter is very inportant for elderly.
She cant hustle for your business and risk a landlord throwing her out at that age.
If she already has a home then use it as a point when dicussing with her.

    1. Even if she has a home, its the old woman's money. Poster should go figure herself out and not stress the poor woman who is building her own house. What makes the posters start up more important than the mother's dream house?

    2. If they don't have a place to stay then the poster is mentally ill

  9. Dear poster, the bible says: Honour your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.(Exodus 20:12)
Honouring your mother doesn't mean you cannot express your feelings. It means you can speak your truth with respect, patience and love.
My dear I will advice you to speak to your mom and don't say, “Mummy, you should help me because I am your only child.” Instead, tell her:
Mummy, I would love you to see my dream as something you can also be part of.
That changes the conversation, to let us build both our futures together.
Your mother is still entitled to make decisions about what she does with what she has.
Your mother doesn't have to finance the entire dream for the dream to become a reality.
Keep your heart soft toward her and keep your faith strong. One day, you may be the one helping your mother finish what she started and that would be a beautiful testimony.

  10. Just as you have your own ambitions she has hers too. You do not know what is driving her just as though you do not know what is driving you. Let her be. You are being entitled, want her to give you her money but you haven’t given her yours. You want to boast how you build a house at your young age but she shouldn’t boast of any accomplishments of her own. If she already funded you an education then have no more expectations. And if you want to be impressive then help to secure the home base before securing yourself. Help fund her project so her dreams can be realized, whatever is hers is yours, as you’re an only child so how will you lose by helping with her project?
