The Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdul’Aziz Abubakar Yari, has appealed to northerners to allow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to complete his eight-year tenure as a way of respecting the established principle of rotational presidency in Nigeria.
Yari, who spoke to journalists at the Kano Government House after holding a closed-door meeting with Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Saturday, said the only viable option now was for the North to be gentlemanly in the arrangement and allow Tinubu to complete his eight-year tenure.



The North-East Governors’ Forum has called on the Federal Government to revive stalled oil exploration activities in Borno State, even as it commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing revival of the Kolmani oil drilling project in Gombe State. The appeal was contained in a communiqué issued at the conclusion of the 13th regular meeting of the NEGF, held at the Borno Government House in Maiduguri on Saturday.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, has deployed top police chiefs to Imo State to lead an aggressive search-and-rescue operation for 20 abducted prospective corps members. The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday in Owerri.

The Benue State Government has suspended the Buruku crossing-point branch of the Nigeria Union of Maritime Workers, NUMW, following Saturday’s boat mishap, with several passengers still unaccounted for. The state Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy, Denis Iyaghigba, ordered the immediate suspension of the union after conducting an on-the-spot assessment of the scene of the accident.

Madonna University, Elele Campus, Rivers State, has expelled a final-year nursing student, simply identified as Mercy, and suspended 14 other 500-level students over a viral TikTok video. The video showed a group of nursing students dancing in a hospital waiting area, on a staircase and inside a bus. Mercy, who featured in the opening seconds of the clip dancing in a hospital hallway, allegedly received her expulsion letter during the week.

The Nigerian Army on Saturday bade farewell to discharged Master Warrant Officers of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, at a ceremony held in the institution’s conference room. The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, Chikadibia Anele, said the ceremony was attended by the Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, Brigadier General Usman Ahmad, principal staff officers and heads of departments.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a man, Zayyanu Halilu, after officers allegedly caught him raping a 12-year-old girl inside a tinted vehicle at Airport Bridge Taxi Park, Abuja. The victim was also found to be about three months pregnant as a result of the alleged abuse, while the suspect is currently in police custody.

The Barbados Police Service Narcotics Unit has arrested and formally charged a 19-year-old British national, Abdul-Rasheed Anjolaoluwa Oduola, over the alleged possession and trafficking of 23.4 kilogrammes of cocaine. Oduola, who resides in Dagenham, East London, United Kingdom, was arrested over offences allegedly committed on September 29, 2026.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has charged the newly sworn-in chairmen of the state’s 21 local government areas to prioritise service delivery, accountability and strict adherence to the law. Soludo gave the charge on Saturday during the inauguration of the chairmen and their deputies at the Government House, Awka.

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 15 kidnapped victims and arrested two suspected kidnappers in separate operations across Edo, Kaduna, Benue, Kogi and Plateau states. The operations were conducted on October 1 and 2, according to an operational report made available to NAN. In Edo, the report said troops of the 195 Battalion, responding to a kidnap incident along the Ekor-Ikakumo Road in Akoko-Edo, rescued three victims.

Troops of the Joint Task Force South East, under Operation UDO KA, have dismantled a suspected terrorist camp in Anambra State. The operation, which was carried out following credible intelligence, led to the recovery of several weapons, ammunition, and materials believed to be intended for use in making improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
According to security sources, the troops stormed the camp in a coordinated raid, forcing the suspects to flee with gunshot injuries, abandoning their arms, and other incriminating items. Items recovered from the camp include rifles, rounds of ammunition, explosives, and other logistics used by the criminal elements to carry out their nefarious activities in the region. The military said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to rid the southeast of criminal elements and restore peace and security in the region.
The Joint Task Force reassured residents of its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorists and urged the public to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
