Minister Of Works Umahi Confirms Rerouting Of Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway Through Edo State.
Minister of Works Dave Umahi says the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway will now shift inland through Edo State after Lagos and Ogun, linking to the East–West Road.
He explained that President Bola Tinubu approved the change due to difficult coastal terrain in Ondo due to deep peat soil, pits, swampy stretches and areas requiring heavy excavation. He says that Raising parts of the East–West Road by two metres will also help manage flooding and climate impact. According to Umahi, Section 1 in Lagos (about 47km) is completed and ready for commissioning, while work continues across Ogun, Ondo, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.
So, they ran into town declaring the award of a project and even budgeted for it before carrying out a feasibility appraisal? But here's what Umahi is silent about. Is the cost of the project going to be reviewed downward from the 15 trillion naira they pegged it to be? Now that the road won't be up to 700 kilometres anymore.
