The Director General of NCDC, Jide Idris, said if Ebola spreads wide enough, the Nigerian government might need to postpone the 2027 general election.
The 2027 general election is scheduled to start in January and politicians vying for office have begun their campaigns.
While the country moves towards 2027, there has been an outbreak of Ebola cases in Nigeria, in the past few days.
However, Idris disclosed that no government will use Ebola as a political tool.
Featuring on Channels Television's Politics Today, he said: "We in the health sector did not use disease issues as a political weapon.
"We hope the election will not be postponed but if the thing gets wide enough that might be considered, as at now there is no need for that.
"This Ebola thing started in DRC a couple of months ago and we were tracking, they said for you to track again there is a possibility that it may get here due to our population movement, flight into this country, and ports of entry, yet it came, no government will use Ebola as a political weapon."

DeleteMay God help His people.
ReplyDeleteIt's all making sense now. I hope those who doubted my comment last week can now see where this is all leading to. APC knows there's no pathway for them to win. All these shenanigans are the last kick of a dying horse. Didn't WHO say there's no record or presence of Ebola in Nigeria?
ReplyDeleteThey should keep deceiving themselves. At the end of it, Nigerians will be the winner in all of this.

My goodness Teejay. Please STOP!.
DeleteThe index case was medically evacuated alongside her diplomat husband yesterday morning.
The 50+ contact persons are still being monitored.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with having divergent views but please read other world news, engage in conversations beyond what you currently expose yourself to, travel, gain some mental exposure so that you can stop sounding "this way"
But I think say WHO say no Ebola for Nigeria?
ReplyDeleteCountry of concern ๐
WHO said that there's no "active " case because the only confirmed case has been flown out. They are still monitoring the contacts.
DeleteAll of a sudden they now care about our wellbeing.
ReplyDeleteSometimes they care. The question is, do we? The other question is who are the they?
DeleteEbola ravished other African countries in 2014.COVID killed millions all over the world.
Nigeria and most parts of Africa did a pretty good job of mitigating our fatalities. As we criticise, let's also cultivate the habit of praising ourselves when anf where.
Hehehe, bola tinubu we hail thee, agba event planner
