The Nigerian government has commenced the construction of a new National Control Centre for the Nigerian Independent System Operator in Osogbo, Osun State. The project will replace the existing sixty four year old facility and is designed to strengthen the monitoring, management and security of the national electricity grid.
The ground breaking was performed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, represented by Bashir Maidugu, alongside the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe. According to the Minister, the new centre will deploy integrated SCADA, large format displays and advanced analytics to help operators detect faults faster, plan maintenance more effectively and optimize generation and transmission capacity.
The upgraded facility will also support renewable energy integration and improve both physical and cyber security across the grid.
