Nigerian Govt Says It Has Not Removed Demarcation On 1st Niger Bridge

Nigerias Federal Ministry of Works has dismissed reports that the demarcations installed on the First Niger Bridge in Onitsha are being removed following public criticism.

The Federal Controller of Works in Anambra, Engr. Timothy Emenike, said openings were only created in the demarcations to allow vehicles to make U-turns during emergencies and enable the FRSC, Fire Service and other emergency agencies to operate effectively.
He said the major rehabilitation work, including tarring, had been completed, while the painting of the railings was ongoing.
Emenike added that the bridge could be reopened before the end of the week, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
