NLC Gives Nigerian Govt Deadline To Meet Demands Or Face Nationwide Shutdown

The Nigeria Labour Congress has given the Federal Government of Nigeria until October 27, 2026, to meet its demands or face a nationwide shutdown.
NLC Acting General Secretary Benson Upah said this after a meeting with the Minister of Labour, and noted that no concrete commitments were made by the government.

The NLC is demanding a reduction in fuel prices, which have risen to as high as N1,429 per litre, and an upward review of the minimum wage from N70,000.
The union has directed its affiliates and civil society partners to begin mobilising for possible nationwide action from October 27,2026.
